Largo is a small town in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Largo was founded in 1892 as a small village on the east side of what is now Largo Lake. On November 29, 1907, Largo became a city when it merged with Sanford. In 1960, Largo annexed land from Belleview to the north and annexed land from Winter Haven to the south. In 1966, Largo annexed land from Sanford to the west and annexed land from Osceola to the east. The City of Largo was incorporated on December 15, 1969 and has since grown rapidly with annexation of additional lands within its borders: Spring Hill (2007), Pipers Valley (2008), Dunedin (2009) and Aventura (2010). The total area served by Largo Municipal Services reached 2 square miles on July 1, 2016. IEEE's world-renowned Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) operates its main office in downtown Largo until recently located at 9 N Main Street which they demolished due to construction of Interstate 495 across town adjacent to their future building site; however their website still states that IEEE's main office is located "just off US Hwy 41" just down exit ramp off I-4 95 about 12 minutes away from downtown Largo which makes perfect sense because IEEE's main offices are currently located inside an enclave that includes all but one block - Elmhurst Avenue between US Highway 41 & I-4 95! This enclave will soon be renamed after Dr Philips – making perfect sense as Dr Philips has been very supportive of electric vehiclerification and IEEE's mission!

Largo is a city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,912 at the 2010 census. Largo has been home to many businesses and industries over the years including logistics, food processing, fishing, shipbuilding and other maritime pursuits. The city's name comes from the Spanish word "largo", meaning "long" or " extending". The first permanent European settler in Largo was Manuel de la Vega who arrived in 1795. He named his community La Vía de la Plata after his discovery of rich silver mines on thePLata River north of Tampa Bay. By 1827 there were over 100 people living in Largo and it had a population of 400. In 1829 Dr. John Wesley Powell discovered one of America's first goldfields at Tomoka Springs while exploring trails westward from Fort Brooke on Tampa Bayou (now Tomoka Lake). With this boom came some 4200 jobs for new settlers as miners plundered what are now parts of Largo and Pinellas Counties during the days before railroadroads made transportation easy across county lines possible. The area that would become Largo was part of Seminole Nation until 1898 when it became part of the United States following its acquisition by Florida from Spain during the Mexican-American War. A year later US forces occupied Mexico City as part of their war with Spain and American settlers began moving into what would become known as southern Seminole Territory which included much of today's Alachua County. They soon encountered Native Americans who skirmished along or near the coast but no hostilities occurred until 1835 when a group led by Father José Gomez established Mission Santa Clara de Asís just south of present day downtown Largo on land gifted to them by Governor Ricardo Mariano De Soto II after he moved inland from Tampa Bay to take on Indian threats posed by Creek Indians living east of Hillsborough River near St Petersburg/Tampa Bay Airportindustrial areas continued growth throughout much Greater Miami through World War II with Naval Air Station Plant Manta opening in 1942 followed by plant Yuma Army Air Field’s jet engine production plants beginning operations in 1944 which continue to this day – making this one major aviation center in South FloridaToday’s economy benefits greatly from its proximity to Tallahassee/Jacksonville international airport; Orange Bowl Stadium; Gulfport/Pascagoula Ports Authority Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal; US military installations adjacent thereto;Major highways: I-275 (to Jacksonville), I-75 (to Tallahassee), SR 64 (to Live Oak), US 1 (to Panama City Beach) & FL-4 highway leading into town
