Largo experienced significant growth during World War II as a result of Naval Air Station April Fool's Day 1945 Plantation project which resulted in over 1,000 new civilian jobs within two months from construction beginning on April 15th 1945 through May 15th 1945; despite predictions that no aircraft would be built or flown out because of wartime rationing restrictions set in place following Pearl Harbor – resulting in many lives being saved – more than 400 planes were produced at NAS April Fool's Day 1945 alone including P-39 Airacobras (the "antam" type), P-63 Thunderbolts (the "jaguar" type), F4U Corsair fighters and RB-26 Invader bombers all made here under license from North American Aviation Company with examples produced by other manufacturers also participated in this program called "New FBI". In early 2007 Largo officials announced they were considering annexing much of University Park so that Suncoast Hospital could expand rapidly There has been much opposition to this proposal with some residents claiming that annexation would mean less open space for them while others feel that larger hospitals should not have exclusive control over smaller communities like their own one
