The first firearms regulation in Largo, Florida was the 1875 Broward County ordinance which prohibited carrying weapons without a license. The next ordinance, passed in 1902, repealed the 1875 ordinance and made it illegal to possess any firearm without a license. In 1934, the state of Florida passed a law that made it an Illegal Use of Firearms Law to carry any firearm on one's person or in one's vehicle without having a valid permit from the sheriff or other law enforcement officer. The first golf course here opened in 1922 and remains one of the most popular courses in South Florida today. In 1952, voters passed an ordinance establishing Coconut Creek Lake which became the first artificial lake in Miami-Dade County

Largo, Florida is a small city located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 10,914 at the 2010 census. Largo is named after Largo, Alabama native and territorial landowner George W. Largo. At first it was just a small community of white farmers and fishermen who fished the Stonington River and its tributaries near Fort Lauderdale. By 1900, the town had developed into a busy port town with several hundred businesses and 5,000 residents. In 1925, Largo became an incorporated municipality under the name of "Broward County". As a result of this incorporation, starting in 1926 local officials were able to levy taxes on property within the limits of Largo (and all other municipalities which had been annexed into Broward County since 1925). Largo experienced some growth during World War II as many people moved to the area to work in shipyards or manufacturing plants that sprang up around the war effort. However by 1945 most of these industries had either closed down or transformed themselves into new kinds of businesses such as real estate development or accounting services. The post-war years saw some modest growth until 1990 when recession hit South Florida hard and joblessness reached record levels. Although business conditions have improved recently there are still plenty of challenges facing local companies including high housing prices and difficulty attracting talented employees to stay put in today's competitive economy. Some notable aspects of Largos recent history include: -The opening in 2003 of JW Marriott's world-renowned PGA Championship golf course - one of only two courses opened in South Florida during that decade -The ribbon cutting for renovations tobrowardcountygov't corporate headquarters beginning in late 2008 which included moving from downtown Fort Lauderdale to what is now called "the Loop" district east of Interstate 95 -In early 2013 plans were announced for a $100 million mixed use project known as "Pier 21" on Downtown Boulevard adjacent to Miami Beach which would add more than 1 million square feet (100 beds) to the downtown core It remains unclear whether those plans will actually come through due to economic conditions
Largo was founded in 1925 by Major Walter J. Largo and his wife, Thea C. Ford. At the time, it was one of the most prosperous small towns in Florida. It grew rapidly thanks to its strategic location on US 41 and a strong economy based on agriculture, fishing, and tourism. In the 1940s and 1950s, Largo experienced two majorboom years due to its key role in World War II as a staging ground forensenational shipping operations. In 1969, after several decades of decline, Largo surged back into popularity with the arrival of shopping malls and new development along US 41.
