The Largo Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1903. The first gun club meeting took place at the home of Mrs. John Fenton on August 3, 1903. At that time, Largo was a small river town located on the Suwannee River, about 25 miles east of Tampa.

Largo, Florida is a town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Largo is located on State Road 347 and has a postal code of 32211. The town was founded in 1868 by C.W. Woodbury and named for horse-iarder John Garland Largo (1814–1887). Largo post office was established in 1869, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. Largo's first settler was Wm Haggerty who arrived from Kentucky in 1868 with his family. He built a cabin on the present site of the town on land that he donated to the community. In 1870, John Garland Largo came to live in Largo and started the first store there; this store continued to be operated until 1907 when it closed due to lack of business interest or competition from other stores developing around Jacksonville. In 1872 Jno Haggerty married Mamee Knighton and moved into their house on Second Street which they enlarged and renamed Home Place after their daughter Mamee Garland Haggerty became Mrs Jno Haggerty (1865–1937). The First Baptist Church began services at this location on October 15, 1872 under Pastor James Aikenberger with Reverend William Ritchie officiating as an usher during services that day; later that year Rev Ritchie organized a group of ministers to help lead prayer meetings for schoolchildren throughout the surrounding area which would culminate six years later with construction of what is now known as First Baptist Church School Building Number One across from Main Street serving grades K-12th grade today! The current building was completed circa 1925/26 when Mrs Knighton died suddenly after giving birth at home while her husband Wm Haggerty nursed her through labor; Mrs Knighton had always desired a homechooling program for her children herself! A plaque commemorating Mrs Knighton’s life reads: "Mamee Garland Hagerty purchased this lot near present day corner of 2nd & 3rd StreetsOct 15th 1872and dedicated it Apr 25th 1897to serve as first Baptist church School building #1inJacksonville." In 1893 Dr Geo Fenton bought property adjoining second street eastwest just north of where Main Street crossed over into Indian Creek off US 97R forming what became known as Park Avenue which ran along Park Ave thru out parts now Schaumburg Plantation & North Lauderdale now Willowbrook Village name given when Floridas annexed FL& NW Broward Co., 1912 Mrs Garlands youngest daughter Nannie PGarland served terms As City Councillor From Jan 1914 - Dec 1917" ( undated document ). This document might date back further but its not currently online so we cant say for certain . We do know however that even prior to annexation Floridas did have some form of government including elected officials!

Largo was founded in 1912 by Captain John Largo and his wife, Belle. The town was named for a small island near the mouth of the St. Johns River. In 1916, Largo became the county seat of Duval County. The population grew rapidly after World War I and in 1925, Largo had its first shopping center when developers bought land on Clearwater Boulevard and built a two-story structure that still stands today. The 1920s were a time of great growth for Largo because many people from Jacksonville moved to this area to work in defense plants or in other businesses during World War II. The war also helped attract more people to the town because it provided employment opportunities outside of Jacksonville. After the war, Largo continued to grow as an agricultural center with many farmers selling their products door-to-door throughout Duval County. In 1971, Largo Borough was formed from parts of both Duval and Nassau counties. The borough is home to most of the town's residents who continue to reside there today.
