In 1965 Lantana had over 200 residents while only 10 were employed in agriculture or businesses outside of Lantzanna which included 6 grocery stores, 3 truck stop restaurants/motels (the first such facility in America), 2 banks/retail institutions (one with an ATM), 2 churches (One Baptist Temple built 1905)[6], 2 convenience stores/gas stations along with several small businesses that operated out of residences or parked their cars next door for customers who needed them during their lunch break from work: a bakery that made pastries from scratch daily,[7]; a service station that sold gasoline and ice cream;[8]; a blacksmith shop;[9]; two prostitutes who ran an exploitation business providing "massage services" to men who came into town for sex instead of going out drinking; one restaurant run by Italian immigrants which served Italian-American cuisine inside an open-air balcony overlooking downtown where customers could watch street activity from within while eating dinner; iced tea served during hot weather outdoors at local schools grades school girls playing games outside before dinner also available
