Lantana, Florida was founded in 1892 by brothers Isaac and John A. Lantana. The first post office was established at Lantana in 1895. The town grew quickly and by 1907 it had a population of 2,500 people. By 1914, the town had grown to 5,000 people and boasted two hospitals, a school system with over 100 students, and a library. In 1916, Lantana became the seat of government for Palm Beach County. On February 15th of that year it passed an ordinance naming Streets in honor of George Washington Carver and Booker T Washington. In 1922 the county seat moved from Lantana to Jupiter after being chosen as the most cost-effective option on the market.
