In 1824, father Antonio donated land to the diocese of St Petersburg for a new cathedral parish which would be known as Santo Tomas Parish. When Spanish Santa Fe rifled through the American colonies during their Venezuelan invasion of 1812, they found smallpox barrels containing vaccine that had been sent back by Father Antoine de la Salle from France; this led toSaint John's being named for him (John XVIII). In 1861 when Cuba became an independent country after its independence from Spain, many people left Cuba for Florida because of political unrest there. They brought plants such as palm trees and sugar cane with them and began to grow crops here instead of farming in Cuba where yields were lower due to lack of natural resources. After emancipation proclamation was issued by Confederate General Robert Ewell on December 12th 1861 several men decided to come out west specifically because they wanted free soil and no slave labor – including A&P Railroad magnate Andrew Carnegie who bought 190 acres (72 hectares) just east of town along James Street in 1865 for $2 million dollars! At first it was thought that these large purchases would speed up development but only increased prices caused more people to move into Lantana during this time period; however, soon enough railroads came into town too so the community slowly grew back around railroad tracks until it reached its current size today thanks largely to A&P’s purchase! During World War II most residents worked on farms orchards or fishing boats as well as making munitions manufacturing yards across town near US Army Ammunition Plant #1 run by DuPont/NRA which produced shells used during World War II before it closed down in 1957 leaving much aluminum unsold which resulted in numerous homes across town becoming vacant until developer David Jaffe acquired them all and turned them into apartments starting in 1978! Today still many homes remain vacant but many have been renovated or replaced with updated architecture giving it a modern feel while also keeping some memories connected like nameplates still hanging from original windows!
