By 1919 however, just three years after prohibition ended in America, new versions of gun slings had reappeared which included the Glock 19Sling (1911)Beltgun Sling (1915), Quick Draw Pistol Sling (1920), and Bantam Pistol Sling (1925). These modifications helped make firearm sllings one of Americas most popular weapons thanks in part to their versatile design which could be adapted for a variety of applications ranging from huntingto target shootingto law enforcement duties etc.. Today's Lakeland economy is based largely on tourism with key businesses including casinos (such as Sam's Club), theme parks ( such as Walt Disney World), retail stores ( such as Macy's), restaurants (including several Italianate / Jacobean styled compounds known collectively as "The Villages"), small watercraft sales docks and boat rentals/rentals services along Orange Beach Boulevard ("Olive Beach") just north of Interstate 495 and east of US-1 In 1892 Prentice Mulford opened his store at 1st Street & US 1 in what would become known as "The Village." At that time there were only two families living in the village which included 190 people occupying 44 homes; all men worked for Mulford or their fathers did so prior to him opening his store. That same year two other stores opened: John Crenshaw’s Store at 2nd Street & US 1 about five miles away from where Mulford’s stood and Wm Henshaw’s Store at 3rd Street & State Road 11 about one mile distant from where Mulford’s stand still serve today! A Post Office had been established early but no mail ever reached this tiny village until 1895!! Today we have over 100 residents living here full time….. back then it was more like amla……… Now you can see all those homes on First Street……………. From there they started selling fruiteeded crops direct to local farmers………..These days we have Orchard Park open air grocery store right next door……….. All these years later we have made great strides BUT our goal always remains THE SAME: TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY LIKE NO OTHER CITY IN FLORIDA

It is part of the Gainesville–Lakeland, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The climate in Lakeland is humid subtropical with significant seasonal variation and very little snow cover year-round. It experiences major hurricanes such as Irma in September 2017 and Jose in October 2018 which caused extensive damage to infrastructure and homes. In 1892, J.C. Penney opened his first store at 2nd and State Streets in what is now Polk County Hall Park on that site; headed by a post office established in 1892 on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard across from present day Polk Correctional Institution #2B (now known as the Gadsden Correctional Institution), Penney's store sold goods including clothing, notions, books, hardware and agricultural supplies to settlers living along Tampa Bayou near downtown Tampa; later it grew into an department store with over 200 stores statewide by 1924 when it merged with Macy's company headquartered in New York City to become one of America's largest retail companies under one roof (it still operates as Macy's Fourth Avenue Marketplace location). In 1955 Penney sold his remaining interest in the company to Mervyn King who served as its chairman until 1984 when he died suddenly; thereafter Sears Holdings Corporation took over management of the company becoming Sears Roebuck & Company before being purchased by Kmart Corporation where it continued operations until 1991 when it merged into Lord & Taylor Stores Incorporated forming Sears Holdings again which continues today as Sears Canada Limited operating under several brand names around the world including Kenmore(formerly GE) appliances
Lakeland was founded in 1835 by James K. Polk, then the United States Secretary of War. The town was named for General John C. Lake and his wife, Flora. In 1868, it became a Seminole Indian reservation. In 1925, the community of Polk City was established adjacent to the town of Lakeland on the north side of Clearwater River. It was home to a paper mill which closed in 1984 and is now an open-air museum located near Interstate 495 in Polk City. The towns of Winter Haven and Hialeah were also founded in 1925 within the boundaries of Polk City. They were respectively intended as satellite communities for larger cities but never grew very large and are now ghost towns with only a few people living there still today.
