Lakeland, Florida is a city in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 116 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Combined Statistical Area. Lakeland was established in 1853 by James Pemberton and named for Lakeland, England. The town was platted in 1872 by John A. McClusky and named after the U.S. state of Michigan's largest river, the Port Huron River. McClusky had been an executive officer with the Detroit Manufacturing Company and became interested in developing land near his company's plants on Dempster Street between Second Avenue and Eighth Street NW. McClusky donated 4,000 acres (1 km2) to be developed into what is now Lakeland as a way to promote trade with Russia and other parts of the world west of Miami-Dade County line; this area would become known as "The Russian Zone". In 1896, McClusky died suddenly while on vacation in Europe; his son took over development of the property until 1920 when it passed to Harry Hines Jr., who founded Hines & Co., one of America's leading meatpacking companies In 1925, Lakeland incorporated as a city underFlorida law No. 281 —the first time such incorporation had been allowed by state legislature sinceeloans were first banned in 1875 In 1933, increasein population led to annexation of neighboring unincorporated neighborhoods including Spring Hill (1933), Clearwater Heights (1935), Cicero Park (1937), Dunedin Gardens (1945), and Sebring Lakeside Estates (1950). As a result of annexations within its own boundaries that occurred during its early years as an independent municipality it sometimes referred to itself simply as "Lakeland" or "Hillsborough County." In 1959 City Manager George Wuerth designed new zoning regulations which limited growth to two east-west streets only - North Boulevard/South Boulevard - symbolizing county lines then being drawn less clearly than they are today . By 1970 there were over 100 residences within city limits alone On July 14th 1969 Lakeland voters adopted Ordinance No. 2 which repealed all prior ordinances regulating rates for water service rendered by private individuals

The British were using cannon that were two to three times as powerful as what Americans had, and so they needed new rounds to shoot at these cannons. Lakeland, Florida is a city located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 962 as of the 2010 census. The City Council voted on October 2nd to make Lakeland an official UNESCO World Heritage Site within the next 5 years due to its significant cultural heritage including: "TheCity of Lakeland’s rich history includes centuries-old African American slave trade connections as well as watershed moments such as when Seminole Indians attacked and destroyed a local cotton plantation in 1837 or when citrus crops were introduced in 1918."
Lakeland was founded in 1839 by a group of colonists from the British Isles. The town, which is now part of Orlando, was initially named after County Dublin, Ireland. The first settlers arrived in boats and started to build homes on the present-day shore of Lakeland. In 1847, the county seat was moved to Winter Haven and the name changed to Lakeland again. In 1924, the county seat was again moved to Winter Haven and it became a city. On January 1, 1961, it merged withOrlando to form a new city called Orlando City SC. As one of Florida's most ethnically diverse cities, Orlando has experienced significant growth since its establishment as an incorporated city. Today, Lakeland remains home to many businesses and organizations related to agriculture and fishing as well as government agencies including the Department of Corrections and Juvenile Services.
