Lake Worth, Florida is a beautiful town located in Broward County, Florida. The population was estimated to be over 100,000 people in 2000 and has grown to over 150,000 people today. The area that makes up Lake Worth was originally inhabited by the Seminole tribe. In 1821, the United States purchased this area from the Seminole Tribe and named it Fort Lauderdale after American president James K. Polk. Some of the first businesses in Lake Worth were post offices and grocery stores. The opening of the Miami-Dade Expressway in 1952 made travel to Lake Worth much easier and also contributed to its growth as a tourist destination. The scopes industry started developing here around 1907 when two men named Edward Molnar and Harry Houdini bought land near what is now Pembroke Road and Cypress Avenue on which they built a telescope factory called "Houdini Observatory." This company produced telescopes for use by scientists all over the world including observation stations atMount Wilson (California),Charcot (Paris),Harvard College's observatory (Cambridge, Massachusetts),and Arecibo Observatory (Quebec). Soon after Houdini Observatory closed down in 1917 due to World War I scarcity of resources, another company named "Olympus" bought it and continued production until 1951. By 1928, there were more than 200 companies making scopes worldwide with about 1 million customers! In 1957, President Eisenhower authorized construction of an observatory on Palm Beach National Forest called Parkland Observatories II which would become one of America's most famous astronomical sites! Parkland Observatories became known for his Atlas Telescope which was inaugurated at Palm Beach Gardens on July 20th, 1960! After American independence from Great Britain was declared on July 4, 1776, General George Washington appointed Major Andrew Johnson to head up military forces meant to protect the newly formed United States from British aggression—an event known as the War of Independence. On November 15th of that year, Commodore John Fenton sighted Spanish vessels off Fort Lauderdale while sailing his brig "Nova Scotia" across North Atlantic)and assumed command of all American forces operating out of Tampa Bay including those manning Fort Lauderdale’s naval base; he ordered his men not to fire on any Spanish vessels they encountered.– From Commodore Fenton’s orders: “No attack be made upon any property or person whatever without lawful authority” In 1828 Nathan Bedford Forrest leased 640 acres (2 km²) south of present-day Sawgrass Road near Clearwater Beach from Jepson Brothers Coffee Company for $5 per acre ($/acre). This tract would become one of America's largest citrus plantations – Obstruction Creek Citrus Farm would grow oranges there until 1977 when it merged with another large citrus plantation named La Palma Farms Inc.; both estates are still extant today . In 1892 developer Isaac Levy began purchasing land east of I-95 south of US 1E and developed it into what became known as PGA Park which includes much of what remains today within boundaries set by Levy in 1916.— Today LakeWorth totals over 320 blocks bounded by Sawgrass Rd., NW Driscoll Blvd., SW Von Karst St., NW Green Ave., NW Longstreet Ave.,NW Loop 8 Rd./US 1E
