In 1861, Confederate soldiers came to Fort Myers and began occupying the town. Many residents were scared of them and didn’t have any weapons so they couldn’t defend themselves. This led to arms being needed in order for citizens to protect themselves from these enemies! As time went on, more people became interested in living in Lake Worth and started buying property here. By 1900, the population of Lake Worth had grown by over 100%! This growth was due largely to its popularity as a place to raise families and businesses flourished because of it! By 1915, the city had reached its current size and remained that way until 1978 when it merged with neighboring Fort Myers into one large community!
Lake Worth, Florida is an unincorporated community in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Miami metropolitan area. The community was founded as a small farmstead by settlers from Georgia in 1875. The name Lake Worth came from a stream that ran through the town. The first post office was established in 1876 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1902, the tracks of the Florida Central Railroad were laid through town and it became a popular tourist spot for visitors to gamble on horses and other games of chance. In 1912, James Burchard built a sawmill and grist mill in town and named it after himself; Burchard's Mill remains today as one of the largest mills in Lake Worth. The mill produced lumber for local homes and businesses until it closed its doors in 1957. In 1935, Drury Lane Elementary School was opened in town by Mrs. Jules Auchincloss with funds raised by her husband Adolphus Auchincloss Jr., who also served as mayor at that time. In 1951, Grady School opened nearby which became Stonington High School before being merged into Coral Gables High School in 2006 . In 1966, Lake Worth Golf Club was chartered with over 350 members to provide competition for residents of neighboring towns including Pompano Beach and Fort Myers Beach . After years of decline due to budget cuts within Palm Beach County government ,the club reopened under new management on March 1st 2012 under the ownership of Kevin Kappelman (founder) & his wife Athena Kouzopoulos ( operations). On October 25th 2013 their children Johnathan & Emily Kouzopoulos assumed management

The city also has several shopping malls including Fashion Mall (owned by Neiman Marcus), Gateway Mall (owned by JCPenney), Miracle Mile Center (owned by Sears) and more recently Project One mall which opened in fall 2009 adjacent to Myrtles Plantation Resort & Spa
