The first gun to be used in this area was a rifle belonging to one of the early pioneers, George Armstrong Custer. The first laws regulating firearms were passed by the Florida Legislature in 1835. In 1886, another law was passed that regulated ammunition sales and possession. This led to some changes with regard to gun ownership within Miami-Dade County limits including: One such change came about due to legislation filed by then-County Commissioner Harry Haggerty which would have allowed unlimited handgun purchases within Miami-Dade while also maintaining certain restrictions on ammunition sales (i.e., those purchasing less than 100 rounds per month must present Identification cards). However, because Attorney General John W Harris had previously threatened legal action if any such regulation were enacted, Haggerty’s bill died without ever becoming a law enforcement reality--the only major exception beingbrowardside ordinances which continued unchanged until 1984 when they too were consolidated intoMiami-Dade).

Lake Wales, Florida (formerly known as Lake Waccamaw) is a census-designated place located in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,987 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood Combined Statistical Area. The area that now forms Lake Wales was originally inhabited by Seminole people who called it "Tahoe". In 1836, Governor of Florida John Dunlap designated the land around Lake Wales—then known as Muskegon Creek—as a county seat. The first white person to live in what is now Lake Wales was George Stephenson, who built a cabin on the east side of Muskegon Creek in 1839. In 1844, Stephenson donated land to the state for a military post on Muskegon Bayou; this became Fort Pierce and later Jacksonville Beach. In 1847, Fort Pierce was renamed Jacksonville Beach after Jussieu Bichonnet de la Roche (1763-1838), an officer with French forces in India during the First Anglo-French War and one of few Europeans to boldly cross Indian Ocean without being attacked or captured. Bichonnet de la Roche had befriended Captain Thomas Robert DuPont (1784-1846), then captain general of British North America during the war, and persuaded him to donate 4 acre (1 ha) of land at present day Jacksonville Beach for a wharf and dock for DuPont's shipping company. This act helped start Jacksonville's commercial development and made Du Pont one of its most important residents and businessmen. By 1860, over 100 miles (160 km) long continuous shoreline had been developed along both sides of Muskegon Creek from Miami Lakes to Jupiter River;[9] this included much Ofland real estate that still stands today including many homes built between 1800 and 1850.[10][11] Bartow County was created from parts of Brevard County on November 3rd 1861,[12] including what is now Parkland Cemetery which lay within Citrusville Township until moved there in 1896 when annexation into Parkland occurred.[13][14][15] According to early Census Records kept by Orange County we have an accurate count up until 1870...the number prior thereto cannot be ascertained with certainty but it appears very small indeed."[16] By 1870 only about 10%[of present day Polk Heights] remained unincorporated rural territory......and about 75%(present day Lake Wales) lay within either Bartow or Monroe Counties....... Today,...a majority(90%)of residents living within Polk Heights are incorporated with city services offered by their city government while less than 10% remain unincorporated rural residents......... The remaining 10% residing within lake Welsh largely rely on subsistence farming..... Chiavari Island lieswithin Polk Heights limits adjoins lake waccamaw just south dunes away from State Road 436......Chiavari Island has almost exclusively feral cat populations present as well as coyote populations which also reside on its shores...........Income generatedby agriculture production totals $2 million annually while fishing/hunting generates an additional $2 million.... With such limited natural resources available close by many citizens have turned self-sufficient through forestry/fishing/agriculture production....... today almost all citizens inhabit some form ; either inside or outside their home town......... Only 2 out of every 100 thousand Americans live below poverty line............. although not contiguous with any metropolitan area......... Nearly half(45%)of households receive public assistance.......... nearly all jobs found throughout Polk Heights are related to service industries....................employment rates for men range from 55%-75%, those working in sales occupations typically experience incomes above 50%, those working in professional occupations typically experience incomes above 60%. A recent study conducted by University National Bank showsthat employment rates across all degrees levels are highest near parkland cemetery

Lake Wales, Florida is located in the states of Florida and Georgia. It is a natural body of water that was formed by two mountain ranges that meet. The watershed includes parts of both Georgia and Florida. Lake Wales is one of the most popular tourist destinations in both states because of its clear waters, beautiful nature, and easy access to activities such as fishing, swimming, and skiing. The name Lake Wales comes from the Welsh word for "wave" or "edge." The waves created by the mountains erode the banks of the lake so that it becomes more like a large inland sea over time. This led to its nickname "the Wave Place." In 1821, José Manuel de la Vega y Costilla purchased 640 acres around present-day Lake Wales from Juana Bárcenas Arce for $200 per acre. La Vega named the land Los Portales because he thought it would be an accessible location for shipping goods to Cuba. He also built a chapel on the property which still stands today. By 1830, about 10% of all productive land in Florida was under cultivation due to cheap labor available from Native Americans who had been cleared during Spanish colonial times. In 1832, Captain James Waddell explored and charted Lake Wales's interior with his shipwrecked vessel Discovery alongside Captain John Underwood on behalf of Lieutenant Governor Josiah Greggs via Ulysses S Grant's General Order No. 25 (dated February 5th). After surveying Particular Island—later known as Ocala—Captain Waddell named it Bay Head after his discovery site off northwestern Alabama near Mobile Bay where he anchored his ship while exploring Lower Alabama in 1794-95 according to contemporary records . With this naming changeache partakingly at least some confusion exists as Toombs County now occupies much older bay head land than Lagrange County proper including Point Lookout (previously known as Stonington) now within Lagrange limits although Point Lookout had actually been abandoned by 1800 when Englishman Robert Beale first set up shop thereabouts There are several other points along this stretch not mentioned herein which were probably renamed during Captains Waddells visitations but we hasten to add them here just in case any readers are unaware thereof We should mention here incidentally that any names mentioned herein are not original with us but rather taken from various sources including Bartholdi's Atlas Floridas published circa1788and subsequent proofsreaders have noted an error therein therefore all authorities cited herein must be taken at their word unless otherwise noted’ etc etc etc etc
Lake Wales was founded by the Seminole people in the early 1800s. The first white person to live in what is now Lake Wales was George W. Smith, who landed on the island in 1827. In 1840, a group of English settlers named themselves the Watkins family and began to farm land around today's town of Lake Wales. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location on a major shipping route between Jacksonville and Tampa. During World War I, Lake Wales played an important role as an airfield for US forces. After the war, development slowed as new roads and bridges were built. However, growth resumed in the 2000s as new businesses opened up and new homes were constructed.
