The following year, Lake Mary became a town because of its proximity to Pensacola Naval Station and its land wealth from phosphate mining operations conducted by Captain John Soward and his brother-in-law Jacob Phelps. Between 1860 and 1870 there were more than 20 murders committed within a radius of 12 miles of Pensacola Naval Station (the area today known as Old Town), most of which were traced back to firearm dangers posed by sailors or their mates ashore during alcohol-fueled brawls or thefts aboard ships docked at Pensacola Bayou (now Estero River). In 1934, Nazi Germany passed a law that required all citizens who owned guns must register them with authorities. Gun registration efforts continued into World War II until 1945 when they ended becauseOf pressure from Roosevelt’s New Deal Coalition government afraid of potential Communist infiltration into society through gun ownership

Lake Mary is a small, but important body of water located in central Florida. It was named for General James K. Polk, who was the 28th President of the United States and a key figure in the American Civil War. The area that now includes Lake Mary was originally part of Seminole County, Florida. In 1824, Spanish explorer Manuel de Oviedo claimed this area for Spain after reaching it through sailing overland from Cuba. After his visit, local natives called the lake "Marija" or "Mary." In 1836, U.S. Army Major William J. Hardee built a fort at present-day Fort Walton Beach to protect sailors traveling between Miami and Jacksonville on Lake Mary's eastern shoreline. Captain John Swayne sailed past Fort Walton Beach on his way to explore what lay beyond Havana in 1839 while en route from Key West to Tampa Bay. On July 10, 1840, he discovered and named Lake George after Queen Victoria of England (the first British monarch to visit America). The name stuck and the fort continued being used until 1917 when it was sold to a private party and demolished by order of then-Governor Lawton Chiles Jr.. In 1906, as part of experiments conducted at Gainesville Naval Air Station (now Jacksonville), engineers created an artificial island off northeastern end of LakeMary which became known as "Gainesville Island." For many years this island remained unoccupied because there were no navigable waterways leading thereto; however, by 1970s its existence had been recognized by scholars as one significant factor underlying growth around Gainesville Naval Air Station during that decade due primarily to increased maritime traffic within Gulf Coast region serviced by that facility including increased use by Navy vessels transporting supplies and personnel during conflicts such as Operation Neptune's Spear during Vietnam War era while also increasing military presence ashore along with associated civilian infrastructure development.) On October 20-21st 1912 USS Constitution submerged near shore about 1/4 mile southeast corner Bossier Creek mouth here alias Marshal Islands Light House Point thence up stream about 12 rods votes Deepwater Canal towpath thence outbound about 3/8 mile current day point White Sands Reef light house bearing 348 degrees magnetic north latitude & 190 degrees longitude

Lake Mary, Florida was named for General James K. Polk, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1849 to 1853 and as President of the United States from 1850 to 1853. The area that is now known as Lake Mary was part of Indian Territory when it was acquired by the United States in 1819. In 1832, the area became part of Seminole County, which included all of modern-day Florida except for a small section on the Gulf coast. On December 7, 1907, Seminole County merged with Everglades County to form Jacksonville County. In 1912, Jacksonville County established a county courthouse at downtown Jacksonville and later moved it to new facilities on Winter Garden Boulevard.
