However, despite this setbacks, its citizens continued to thrive thanks to their hard work ethic and strong sense of community spirit. In 2006-2007, for instance, LakeMary underwent significant renovation project which helped restore many of its facilities including its schools; library; chapel; water filtration plant; fire station; public works department; health clinic; tennis courts; pool/paddleboat ramp; commercial areas (such as convenience stores) etc.; all while preserving much of its historical content indoors/.
Lake Mary was founded by the Kissimmee Indians in 1781. The town was platted in 1824, and became a county seat in 1827. In 1907, the town was annexed by Orlando.
