Lake City is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. The community was founded in 1875 by settlers from Georgia and Alabama who named it after the city of Lake City, Alabama. The name change to Lake City in 1907 when the state of Florida acquired ownership of part of Mobile Bay. Lake City began as a communal farmstead with 27 residents in 1875 and grew to over 1,000 by 1905. In that year, developer Prentice Mulford purchased 3 ha (6 acres) of land at the junction of U.S. 19 and Gulf Freeway for $1,500. On October 12, 1907, Mulford established what would become known as Mulford Park State Recreation Area on . The park includes six ponds with a combined surface area of , three golf courses (including one for professional players), tennis courts, picnic areas and several hundred residences built between 1908 and 1912 by developers Charles Aiken and John Waddell under contract from Mulford himself. In 1916–17 an electric streetcar system connected Lake City with nearby Fort Smith but this service was discontinued after just two months due to high expenses associated with expanding into new territory beyond Polk County's original borders: Tulsa had been annexed into Oklahoma Territory prior to its outbreak World War I; Gainesville had joined Florida in 1959; and Jacksonville had became a city in 1926 without any corresponding impact on travel or tourism within Polk County limits—the only county in Florida without any significant growth during that time frame attributable to increased urban populations outside its boundaries. In 1948 development resumed along US-19/Gulf Freeway following plans by then-Polk County Manager Harry Fenton which called for the creation of an open-air shopping center on 500 acres adjacent to Fort Myers Naval Base if work proceeded as planned along then-U S 19/Gulf Freeway between Interstate 75 northbound and Veterans Memorial Boulevard eastbound (now Lee Road). Work commenced on November 5th following overnight construction which included demolition of homes near milepost 9 on then-U S 19/Gulf Freeway within view of Fort Myers Naval Base before beginning morning hours December 6th followed by concurrent weekend construction including excavation across street from Ft Myers Naval Base starting Saturday December 8th until early Monday morning January 2nd 1949 when all work ceased due to Hurricane Ike damage beyond fort Myers Naval Base's fence line resulting in estimated loss totaling $2 million dollars ($ today: approximately $18 million dollars). As a result not one single home was damaged or lost during either night or day events leading up to Ike’s landfall although many windows were broken or smashed thereby exposing contents inside - something that has never been witnessed again since such an event occurred within live memory save for occasional minor bombings or shootings near military installations around the world every few years no matter how "safe" these have become! By 1954 only four homes remained standing total outposts now comprising present day downtown core while other sections surrounded by undeveloped land served primarily as barracks for local military personnel barracks being erected along bisected current Lee Road edged more towards rural areas immediately southward away from Ft Myers Naval base where now much industrial activity takes place steel mills aluminum smelters phosphate fertilizer plants woodpiles .......all having closed down long ago leaving behind large vacant lots often used both recreationally & commercially ...Today there are very few people living Downtown except occasional visitors walking through portions close enoughTo see all That Is Open And nothing much has changed SinceAlthough all That Is Left Is Some Nice Streetscapes Along With Dumpster Diving..One Can Only wonder What Would Have happened If These Towns Had Stayed Small...... Today we see Many Podunk Towns popping up All Over America As More People Are Moving Out Of Cities To Live Close To Natural Resources However When You Look At The Past History Of These Places They usually Disappear.........

On July 14th, 1614, Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary: "Yesterday saw Mr Cooke bring home two Pistols which he hath been making for about six weeks...I do not remember when I had seen such fine Pistol-bodies."
Lake City is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. It was founded by George Washington Morrison in 1859 as the town of Morristown. The first post office was established in 1865, and the first store was built in 1870. The population of Lake City grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location on the then-new citrus belt between Miami and Tampa. As a result, many businesses were opened in what is now downtown Lake City and other areas around the lake. In 1922, Morrison donated land to create what is now Park Boulevard, which connects downtown with the community of Libertyville to the north. In 1959, Lake City annexed the adjacent village of Libertyville. As a result, it became one of only two incorporated municipalities in Polk County without a Village Board (the other being Largo). In 2000, Mayor Bob Gelbart created anCity Council composed mainly of city employees; this arrangement has been retained since then. Today, Lake City remains an attractive destination for tourists and residents alike due its natural beauty and historical significance. It also features several popular attractions such as its namesake lake and parklands complete with beaches and golf courses; as well as a variety of restaurants and shopping venues unique to the area.
