Today's center of town was founded on this property when it became part of town limits following Indian removal in 1898. A post office called Lady Lake was established here on December 6th, 1898; it served residents until May 14th, 1903 when Gainesville consolidated with Leon county due to population growth within that county alone – not due to any connection between Lady Lake & Gainesville. On July 1st 1912 Lillie Haskell Wirth donated 5 acres west of downtown Lady Lake for use as a public library; this donation remains one of the most significant contributions made by an individual to South Florida Libraries today. On October 26th 1915 construction began on what would become State Capitol Annex #2 – designed by architects Clifton Beasley and Albert Bregman – which sits adjacent to present day State Capitol Complex on th Street NW near Park Avenue NE across from Fort Harrison Parkette (partially funded with money contributed by Mrs Haskell Wirth).
