On October 3rd 1903 two Sisters named Saint John Of God founded St Joseph Parish church at 16th Street & US Hwy 41st East (). Reverend Mother Mary Seton officiated at services first on October 15th 1903 followed by her sister Sister Marie de la Croix who served until 1927 when mother Superior transferred her ministry to Palm Coast . later sisters Madeline Rochefort (1927-1972) Sister Ursula O'Brien (1973-2000) also served here from time TO time before moving on . During those early days Rev Mother Mary Seton made numerous trips throughout Polk Co., Drifting along with goods caught with nets off White Sands Bayou about 4 miles north east then landing at St Johns Landing just past present day’s intersection KADY Rd/SR 7057 south side — taking everything imaginable along such as fruit trees seedlings onions etc…. she would huddle around campfires telling us all about her homeland Ireland especially Galway City finally being able to go ashore July 1936 having been searching since 1931 !!her efforts paid off !! After leaving St John’s Landing we continued our journey downstream following former white sand beaches now covered by swampy tropical rainforest enjoying only occasional glimpses or contact with civilization until reaching today’s location Aug 1948 after driving over 100 miles non stop !! This amazing event can still be seen today as you drive down SR 7057 just past Little River Rd #2259 towards Kissimmee………..In 1948 an airfield was built adjacent to what is now known as CRYSTAL Lakeshore Drive , providing access not only for military jets but also civilian planes bringing touristships directly onto Love Field runway ! even Today one can see remnants OF THAT AIRFIELD FROM FAR AWAY AS YOU DRIVE DOWN RIDGE ROAD next TO KISSIMMEE COUNTY LIBRARY Lady Lake started out life as simply "Lake" because there wasn't much else around there aside from marshland and swampy terrain. By 1907, though, locals had started developing their land into parcels they could sell while they waited for title deeds: 8 lots were sold within 1 year! The area now includes mostly residential areas - although there are still some businesses based in town such as banks and restaurants - but visitors can still find plenty of places To Play Here!. Lady Lake, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 2,032 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The town was named after Lady Lake in Michigan. The name comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "a deep well." The first settler in LadyLake was James Wetherbee who located a cabin on the banks of Lady lake in 1829. In 1835, A.J. Sargent purchased 640 acres of land and founded the village of Sargentville which now comprises much of what is now LadyLake. In 1839, Jno Davis established a grocery store and post office near present day intersection of US1 and SR-422. On October 9th, that year Union soldiers burned down Davis store with county residents inside to prevent it from being looted by Confederate forces retreating from Fort Sumter during the Civil War. For many years prior to World War II, LadyLake's economy relied largely on agriculture which produced wheat, corn and other crops for local markets as well as building materials for local townships such as Winter Park and Sanford (then known as Hernando County). By 1945, however, establishment of theme parks had begun to take center stage in LadyLake's economy with several large resorts springing up along US1 such as Universal Studios Hollywood Resort & Theme Parks (now Islands Paradise), DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Orlando Airport & Conference Center (now Marriott Marquis Hotel), Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort - Marine Station Marina & Waterpark (now Dolphin Beach Resort), SeaWorld Orlando - Marine Station Marina & Waterpark (now SeaWorld) and Wet 'n' Wild water park opening in 1990; these combined with declines in production agricultural acreage have led to a decline in population over the past few decades while development has increased around town periphery only marginally impacted overall community size; today there are just over 1 dozen residents living within walking distance of central business district while more than fifty businesses provide services or support operations within one half mile radius including restaurants/bars/shops/cafes/gtvs etc.; housing developments have been announced but no final decisions have yet been made about where they will be located
Lady Lake was founded by the Seminole Tribe of Florida in 1835. The name is derived from the lake's many large, white sandbars. In 1865, Lady Lake was named for then-Governor of Florida Andrew Jackson.
