Walton Beach-Lakeland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Lady Lake was Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1539. In 1763, General James Knoppers named it after Countess Elisabeth de Montluc, wife of Colonel Baron Pierre Charles L’Oyalet de La Rochefoucauld, commander of an expedition against Choctaw Indians east of Tampa Bay. A post office called Lady Lake was established in 1824 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1872, Lady Lake was incorporated as a town under Seminole County jurisdiction; it became a city on July 1, 1907. The name honors surveyor Augustus Fenton (1824-92). Fort Donelson National Monument headquarters are located within the limits of the city limits. On December 5, 1912, during World War I, Confederate forces burned over 100 homes and businesses in downtown Lady Lake while retreating from Union forces that had arrived there to capture them assupplies for their army at Pensacola beachhead south of Jacksonville Beach; no one was injured or killed as a result of this attack other than some lost property which could not be replaced because no supplies were available for such an extensive firefight As part of efforts to improve infrastructure within Tallahassee and its metropolitan area following Hurricane Andrew's landfall on August 29th 1992 much work has been done with regard to improving drainage ditches along State Road 441 - including widening old streets - resurfacing lanes on SR441 north from SR441 Business/I-4 exit 12 as well as improvements to two intersections just outside Ofelia - entrance onto US 1A from SR441 Business/I-4 exit 11 near US 301N exits 8 and 9; these have resulted in improved flowability throughout much of downtown Tallahassee during times when heavy rains or flooding are expected
Lady Lake was an incorporated community in Polk County, Florida, United States. The community was established in 1907 and located east of the present-day town of Lady Lake. It was dissolved in 1954.
