In the early 1900s, the application of airguns to hunting began in Lady Lake, Florida. A farmer named Sikes started using airguns to hunt deer and other game in 1907. He made his first purchase of an airgun in 1912. In 1916, he gifted a rifle to his son, who also became a hunter with an airgun. By 1922, there were three businesses involved in the hunting industry in Lady Lake: The Air Gun Shop, The Rifle Shop and Sikes’ Gun Shop. In 1927, Julius Saulsbury bought out Sikes’ gun shop and continued to use airguns for hunting until he died in 1984. In 1953-1954, Fred Linnan rented space from The Rifle Shop on Belle Isle Boulevard for his own business called “Linnan’s Air Guns & Hunting Supplies”. It was here that Linnan first began selling rifles for airguns as well as shotguns and pistols. In 1966-1967, Hugo Weisfeld purchased the business from Linnan and continued using it as his personal firearms range until his death in 1997. In 1978-1979, Dick Smith began operating an outdoor shooting range located on Belle Isle Boulevard just north of the commercial district that now containsLady lake High School
Lady Lake is a small town in Brevard County, Florida. It is located on the east coast of Florida, about twenty-five miles northeast of Melbourne and thirty-six miles southeast of Fort Pierce. The population was 1,502 at the 2000 census. The name Lady Lake comes from one of the first settlers in the area, postulator Augustus W. Lake. He named his home "Lakeland" after his garden in England where he grew up. There are also two other settlements called Lady Lake; one settled by Captain John Stonington in 1824, and another by Major James Bogue in 1836-37. Today's village was organized on July 1, 1904 when the land around it was partitioned off from what was then known as Melbourne Township to form Brevard County. The first store opened here on December 4th, 1888 by Jno Aiken & Bros., a general store with a grocery department and feed millinery operation on its premises which continues today as Northeast Market/Grocery

They raised poultry and hunted game near present-day Wauchula County. By 1872, they had moved to a larger farmstead on the west side of the lake where they remain to this day. In 1912, Mrs. John Aveland donated over two thousand acres (8 km²) of land to make up Maidstone Park which included parts of today's Lady Lake community as well as extensive tracts of swamp and hardwood forestlands that still exist today. This donation made possible the construction of many homes and businesses in what is now Ladylake including Haines House Resort & Spa which remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in central Florida today! Today, portions of Maidstone Park are also home to some beautiful gardens which include a pond filled with alligators and an interactive zoo containing more than seventy different animals from all over the world! Visitors can explore this area by following a path that begins at Haines House Resort & Spa or driving downriver into deep swampy woods where they can find everything from gators to raccoons!
In 1837, Lady Lake was a small tract of land that consisted of less than two square miles. The area now includes the city of Fort Myers and much of Naples County. In the 1840s, the area became an important source for cotton due to its fertile soil and strategic location near rivers. By 1850, the area had become a major industrial center with mills producing everything from flour to cotton fabrics.
