Kissimmee, Florida is a city located in the Miami-Dade County, Florida region. The population was 568 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The Kissimmee Airport is located in town and has been served by air travel since 1941. In 1951, Armand Hammer purchased an airport hangar that housed his new armaments company, Hammer & Sons Arms Company (H&S). H&S manufactured rifles and pistols for the US military and law enforcement agencies. In 1959, H&S began producing ear plugs to protect shooters from hearing loss while shooting at target ranges across the United States. The first ear plugs were made with silicone and felt materials to provide a good fit for most shooters’ ears. By 1978, Hammer & Sons had produced over two million ear plugs. By 1984, Kissimmee had become a center for production of Shooter Ear Plugs due to their unique design which protected shooters’ eardrums from ringing or other hearing damage while playing video games or using headsets during shoots at ranges all over America. At this time companies such as Memorex and others were beginning to produce similar earplug styles with material designed specifically for shooter use such as Kevlar insulation and neodymium magnets that held onto rounds perfectly without falling out or becoming lost during play

The name "Kissimmee" is derived from the Ojibwe word "kissi", meaning to run or flee quickly. Kissimmee was founded by Major General Andrew Jackson in 1798 as a military post on the banks of the Kissimmee River. In 1821, it became an incorporated town and remained so until 1970. The city was named for James Kincaid, who fought in the Seminole War and afterward built plantations near what is now downtown Kissimmee. A song about Kincaid called "Kissing My Cousin" (1870) helped make Kissimmee a center of plantation life. After Railroad magnate George Pullman built his dream train depot here in 1909, Kissimmee grew rapidly as rail passengers increased their visits to southernFlorida during World War I and World War II. During those years, many factories and businesses relocated to kissimimee including one that manufactured Dixie Cups (1957). Architecturally speaking, much has changed since then - most notably when two adjoining shopping malls were combined into one complex known as The mall at Port Orange which opened in 1971 along with Interstate 495 linking it all together

It is part of the Orlando–Downtown–Kissimmee (ORL) Combined Statistical Area. The name "Kissimmee" means "kissing Meadows." The first Europeans to visit Kissimmee were French and Spanish traders from Louisiana in 1693. A post office was established at Kissimmee on July 4, 1822, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1918. In 1827 Jameson founded J&J Canning Company which manufactured canning products for local retailers. By 1840 the cannery company had become one of the largest employers in town with over 100 workers. On November 2, 1880, a fire destroyed much of downtown Kissimmee; however J&J rebuilt and continued to operate until itsClosure on December 31st of that year due to financial difficulties. A cotton gin was built by W H Burt in 1885 and became operational that same year; it remains the only continuously operating cotton gin west of the Mississippi River today. In 1916 Jacksonville-based Citrus Airways merged with Orlando based Universal Air Lines to form National Airlines; this led to the creation of Orlando–Kissimmee (ORL) as FLIGHT CODE OPDC when National Airlines merged into US Airways on January 1st of that year! In 1927 Samples Electric Supply Co., Ltd., opened a small electric store at 401 North Main Street; later renamed Samples & Sons Emporium Incorporated after merging with SAMPLES ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE INC.; this led to Samples Electric Supply becoming ONE OF THE LARGEST ELECTRONICS STORES IN THE AREA! KISSIMMEE MALL opened on October 15th 1966 adjacent toSampler's Emporium across from Florida Atlantic University - now known as FAU Shopping Center! The mall featured an extensive collection of both American and foreign brands along with several restaurants including Pizza Hut and McDonalds among others! In 1990 KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT relocated from their previous location two blocks north at 6th St & Commercial Avenue into their current facility located just off I-4 southbound exit #142 within minutes after being solicited by citizens who complained about long wait times for police services inside City Hall! Since then KISSIMMEE POLICE DEPARTMENT has been integral part of city life providing essential law enforcement services during events such as festivals or major sports games? In 2007 Kissimmeee annexed nearby unincorporated community Greenacres making it a full service municipality under government control!
Kissimmee is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,745 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood metropolitan area. The Kissimmee Ferry Terminal (1911) is one of the most significant historic sites in Kissimmee. It served as an important transportation hub for residents and businesses in the Sunrise-Kissimmee-Orlando corridor before Interstate 495 bypassed it in the early 1960s. The terminal closed in 1971 but has been preserved as a registered Historic Landmark by the City of Kissimmee. In 1984, a new ferry terminal was built on Orange Blossom Trail just east of U.S.-14 and serves primarily commuters from central Florida to Orlando; however, it also provides access to local resorts close to downtown Kissimmee. In November 2009, plans were announced for a $100 million mixed-use redevelopment project that would include office space, residential units and retail storefronts on over of land located along US-441 north of State Road 436 between Palm Bay Boulevard and Golden Gate Avenue west of US-441/I-4 95th Street south of SR 436/SR 436A. This development would be called "The Park", and it would be adjacent to Magic Kingdom theme park vacation rentals
