This business was known as Fitzpatrick’s Knife and Tool Shop. In 1861, Mr. Fitzpatrick passed away and his son, James Fitch took over the business. From 1861-1872, James Fitch also ran the knife shop at 801 State Road A in Kissimmee. In 1881, JFitton’s shop moved to 9th Street and Court Avenue in kissimmee and continued operation until it closed down in 1932. In 1933, Mr. Fitzpatrick’s son again took over the store and operated it until he died in 1954. From then on, the business passed through several hands before finally being purchased by Burt Ladd of Ladd Hardware Company on May 1st 1958. At that time, the old “Fitzpatrick’s Knife Shop” reopened as Ladd Hardware Company Store #2 which continues to operate today with a few changes - most notably an addition of a second story for added store space!

Kissimmee is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 31,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what would become Kissimmee were James and Esther Kirkland who arrived on May 20, 1845 from Vermont. They named their new town after their native land – Kisti-Melee (Creek Stream Township). In 1868, they sold their land to Wm. Fenton and his family who renamed it Fenton Air Force Base after World War II airman killed in action in Europe. In 1950, Kissimmee became an incorporated city when all of Polk County detached itself from Lake Wales County to form its own government. The charter for Kissimmee City Limits granted by the Florida Legislature stated that: "The City limits shall extend along Deerfield Beach Boulevard east to State Road A1A which lies within the corporate limits of neighboring cities of Sanford and Winter Garden; thence northward to State Road 441 which leads into Daytona Beach; thence eastward to US Highway 1…". In 1960, when Volusia County detached from Duval County and formed its own government, Kissimmee annexed part of Sanford as well as portions of Winter Garden and Ocala (the easternmost county in Florida). That same year saw the opening of Walt Disney World Resort – making it the first municipality ever incorporated withinDisney's theme park empire. By 1990, there had been a total growth of over 140 percent due largely to annexation by adjacent municipalities including Rosemont and unincorporated parts of metropolitan Orlando proper as well as Seminole Heights Pocket Park in Melbourne Beach (now just an enclave within Melbourne Beach). The first permanent European settlers in Kissimmee, Florida were the brothers Fenton and Jonathan Hargrave who came over on the USS John C. Stennis in 1843. They named their new land "Kissimmee" after their home town of Kirkcaldy in Scotland. The first store in Kissimmee was built by Fenton and his brother Jonathan on what is now Main Street. The Hargraves continued to operate this business until they sold it to J.B. Carpenter in 1887. At that time, Kissimmee became a thriving center for commerce with many stores and businesses clustering around the square where Main Street meets Garden Drive today. In 1907, the city of Kissimmee was incorporated as a municipal government with a mayor and six council members. After World War II, when the military closed down many businesses in central Florida, Kissimmee bounced back quickly with several new businesses opening up including Sam's Club, Lowe's Home Improvement Store, Denny's Restaurant & Tavern, Plus Size Clothing Store and numerous other small businesses throughout its heyday as an important community hub . Today, kissimmeecity continues to thrive as a vibrant center for business and culture - witness its recent rebirth as one of Central Florida's most popular tourist destinations
