A post office called “Kissimmee” was established in 1856, and remained open until 1907. The first settlers were Hernando Ponce de Leon and his brother Miguel Lopez de Santa Clara. They came to Jacksonville in search of more fertile land and founded a town on the western side of Lake Okeechobee – Logansport – near present-day Arcadia Avenue south of Interstate 478. A mill built by DeLeon proved too difficult to operate so he sold it to J.P Morgan Jr., who moved his operations there into what is now downtown Kissimmee on October 15, 1914; Morgan renamed it “Morgan Business Park” which remains its name today (although spelled KISSIMMEE). In 1927 The Miami Herald changed its name from “The Miami Daily News” to simply “Miami”; this made way for newsrooms throughout Southwest Florida including those located in Fort Lauderdale (then called Harbor City), Hollywood (then called Bronx) and Clearwater (then called St Petersburg). With World War II raging across Europe, printing plants closed all over Southwest Florida except for Miamisburg where Postmaster General Harry Truman set up an experimental press plant with help from United Press International Limited that started printing newspapers on July 1st 1945 using recycled paper supplies left over from World War II munitions production sites along I-95 north of Tampa Bay

Kissimmee, Florida is a town in Polk County, Florida. It was founded on February 12, 1903 by the merger of two small villages: Kissimmee and Belleair. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Seminole word "kisso" meaning "to kiss." The first people to live in Kissimmee were Native Americans who hunted and fished in the area. On December 20, 1813, Captain John Cook sailed into Lake Okeechobee and saw what he thought was a land mass lying between him and Cuba. When he landed his ship on December 26th he found that it was only an island - Miami had been created days earlier! Upon landing, Cook named it Miami after King George III of England because no one knew where else it could be! A post office called Kissimmee opened in 1854; its name changed to Belleair in 1865. In 1903, when two small villages merged to form Kissimmee (population 362), Belleair remained as the only village within the new town boundaries. By 1910, however, all but four of the original homes had been torn down or replaced with newer homes due toilda construction boom around that time. In 1959, when Orange County became territorial property of state of Florida following Florida's secession from the United States, local officials decided not to become part of Indian Territory like other counties in south central Florida did and adopted a nickname for their newly formed county: "The Great State ofFlorida". A flag flyover ceremony honoring President Dwight D Eisenhower on October 25th determined that Kissimmee would be known as "Lakeland-Kissimmee" until proper government documentation establishing its official name could be obtained! Kissimmee grew rapidly during World War II with servicemen living there filling up military barracks nearby such as Fort Myers Beach Post #1 which housed more than 2,000 men during World War II! As war continued to escalate prices for foodstuffs skyrocketed so too did rents for housing units across town; however despite this challenge residents persevered and by 1948 had reached 710 residents although some still resided in their original farmhouses which remain standing today (see below). Businesses along NW 1st St between University Blvd & Main Ave shuttered aftermath of large fire starting near airport several weeks prior . The Kissimmee area was first settled by Seminole Indians in the early 1800s. A post office called "Kissimmee" was established in 1839 and remained open until 1903. The town of Kissimmee was founded on December 3, 1907 by Fenton Hargrave as a result of an act of Congress passed that same year which authorized the creation of towns around Lake Okeechobee for white settlement. As part of this process, Kissimmee became one of seven towns located around Lake Okeechobee to become incorporated on March 6, 1908. On July 14, 1926, Hurricane Hazel made landfall in Florida and quickly destroyed much of what had been built within the past few years in the area around Kissimmee Creek; however, little damage occurred to downtown Kissimmee since it sat behind high levees. In 1939-1940 during World War II many military families moved into the area after General Motors opened their new plant on Northwest Highway near US 1 and All American Drive in nearby Sanford which would eventually become home to over 50% local manufacturing jobs related to war production including tanks and fighter planes (the plant closed after the war). This helped contribute to rapid growth and development within downtown KissimMee throughout most of those years with only a cursory attention paid towards central square where many things now take place such as concerts or political rallies... although some activities that once took place there have now relocated elsewhere due to noise levels from all these people living close by (like car shows/phies or fireworks displays)... but overall it's still a vibrant community full of energy that has managed to keep its unique character despite some tough times!
