Kissimmee, Florida is located in the panhandle of Miami-Dade County. The city was founded on August 29, 1896 by John C. Swartzwelder and his wife Lillie Blythe. It became a suburb of Miami in 1963. In 1995, the city merged with neighboring Ocala to become Kissimmee-Ocala Combined Statistical Area. As of 2016, the population of Kissimmee was over 100,000 people and it is projected to grow even more in the coming years due to its advantageous location within walking distance of many businesses and services.
