After the war ended, many of these factories closed down due to competition from new companies such as Winchester Ammunition Corporation and Remington Arms Company. However, some remained open until they shut down completely in 1981 due to economic issues surrounding gun control laws at that time. In 1978, two young entrepreneurs named Donny & Marie opened a smallsports bookstore called Gun Emporium next door to their father’s auto dealership on US 1A near I-4 Exit 218A near State Road 82A). In 1984 they changed their name to KISSIMMEE GUN STORES after purchasing an existing store in Jacksonville (owned by Bud Weisinger) which had been renamed THE GUN STORE OF JACKSONVILLE BEACHES INC., INC.. While KISSIMMEE GUN STORES carried all types of handguns ( rifles & shotguns) along with all types of sporting goods including clothing ( pistol shirts etc.), we never stopped stocking just pistols! From our first transaction we knew we had something special on our hands when we started seeing customers return multiple times with high praises for our quality merchandise at competitive prices! Kissimmee, Florida is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,853 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Seminole word "kissimee" meaning "place where sweet potatoes grow". As of the 2010 census, Kissimmee had a median household income of $50,306 and a median home value of $148,500. In 1868 two men named Jesse James and Andrew Jackson were driving down State Road 10 when they came upon what they thought was a ghost town. They found instead an Indian village with over 50 wigwams. In 1872 Jacksonville developer John Purdy bought land in what is now Kissimmee and began to build homes. He called his community "Kissimmee". The first post office opened in 1880 and remained open until it was closed by the US Postal Service in 1957. The city's economy changed dramatically after World War II when thousands of soldiers arrived to fight in Europe and America needed workers to rebuild after the war. The area became known as "the breadbasket of Florida". Manufacturing led to growth in jobs such as plastics and rubber products; however, many companies left during the 1990s recession that hit all parts of America including Florida. After years of debate between downtown residents and developers about whether or not to make way for shopping malls or high-end apartments on key arterial streets such as NW 30th Street, plans finally evolved for a mixed-use development along I-4 Exit 2209 which would include retail stores (anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue), office space (anchored by IBM), residential units (including condos/condos with views of palm trees), restaurants (anchored by national chains like Applebee's) and hotel rooms (containing Marriott properties). The project was approved by voters in 2002 with exceptions for shopkeepers – who would keep their businesses –and homeowners who objected to higher housing prices than those available outside the city limits without developing their property within walking distance thereto – something that has become increasingly common throughout much South RegionFlorida real estate over recent decades due mostly to limited economic opportunities outside urban areas that have responded quickly to suburban sprawl developments fueled largely by job growth adjacent Interstate highways
On October 6, 1868, Kissimmee was chartered as a town by the Florida legislature. The first settler in what is now Kissimmee was Captain John Wesley Key and his wife Sarah Key. Captain Key's home still stands on present-day Main Street in town. In 1871, James S. Baldwin founded the Baldwin Insurance Company in central Kissimmee and began insureting farms and citrus crops. The company prospered until it went bankrupt in 1923. In 1922, the United States purchased land covering most of what is now Polk County from the Spanish government for $5 million dollars - making it one of the largest U.S. acquisitions ever made at that time. After World War II ended, many people left Florida to find new homes in North America; however, some stayed to help rebuild the post-war economy of Kissimmee and other parts of north Polk County. Many businesses were started up during this time including several breweries which remain active to this day such as Allagash Brewery (founded 1925), Tampa Brewing (1927), and Evergreen Brewing Company (founded 1937). Kissimmee also became known for its annual South Florida Fair which has been held every August since 1907
