The French explorer Nicolas Darin sighted land again about four leagues (6 km) eastward along Biscayne Bay on July 20 1795 while exploring Spanish possessions under leadership by Captain Manuel de la Costa y Arellano following his return journey from Mexico City with supplies including 400 hogsheads (1 metric ton)[1] After several days’ sail they arrived off Biscayne Bay on July 25th at 4 PM BST and anchored opposite Fort Caroline but did not enter because there seemed no means either side could force passage through those high rock walls (~11 m high).
