Gun chokes have been a part of Key West culture for centuries. The first gun choke was made by Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto in 1536. It consisted of a piece of wood, about 2 feet long and 1/4 inch wide, that was inserted into the barrel of a cannon. The choke allowed soldiers to fire more accurately at enemies who were distance from the gun. Gun chokes were also used as weapons in wars and fights between rival gangs or clans.
Gun chokes can be used to control a person's movements. They are also effective when used in self-defense. A gun choke can be achieved by using an overhand grip with the weapon held at arm's length, and wrapping your other hand around the back of the gunman's neck. This will strangulate him and prevent him from breathing.
In 1892, Key West was the site of the first successful gun chokes in America. The inventor of this innovation, Major Elisha Gray, patented his invention and it became known as the “Gray Gun Choke”. This choke allowed firearms to be fired without causing catastrophic injury or damage to their barrel.
Key West, Florida is a small town located on the US brown sugar island of Key Largo. The town was founded in 1846 by Captain John S. Williamson and his wife Maria, who named it for the key that spelled their married name. The first white settlers arrived in 1847, and Key West grew rapidly from its original population of twenty-five to over two thousand by 1860. By 1900, Key West had become a thriving citrus boomtown with a population of six hundred residents and thirty-six businesses. In World War II, the city became an important naval base as well as a center for munitions production. After the war, KeyWest experienced an influx of displaced persons from all over Latin America and Asia due to the oil embargo caused by the Korean War. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, however, KeyWest began to lose its vitality as a commercial center and fell into disrepair. However, since 2000 it has begun to experience significant revitalization with new development occurring in both downtown and Lady Bussard Park. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in Florida, Key West is an excellent place to spend any time during your visit to Gulf Coast America!
There is a long and well-documented history of gun chokes, dating back to the 16th century. In that time, handguns were used primarily for ceremonial purposes and assassination, and thus they were not common among individuals. This led to their use by militias as specialized weapons. Choke devices were developed in order to make it difficult for the user to fire while being choked. One early choke device was the safety pin (Figures 1A-B). The safety pin was inserted into a hole on the side of the handgun that protruded above the grip. Once inserted, it could not be withdrawn without breaking the weapon's connection with the shooter. As a result, shooters had to take great care not to hit themselves in the face when trying to chamber a round. This device did not survive into modern times and is no longer in use today (Figure 1C). The second type of choke device was called an "error frame" or "safety catch." This frame consisted of two iron plates that fit over each other (Figure 2A). When pulled down, it prevented either hand from moving independently during firing; this feature made it necessary for shooters to maintain control over their handguns while shooting. It also proved difficult for opponents to snatch away firearms from shooters who had been successfully choking them (Figure 2B). Although these devices did not survive into modern times, they are still occasionally encountered in antique firearms collections ( Figure 3 ). One such example is an English pistol dating back to 1715 that has both types of chokes attached ( Figure 4 ).

However, KeyWest bounced back quickly with new businesses opening up such as tourism (first developed as smuggling) and fishing. During World War II keyWD experienced growth due to its military ties to both England and Japan but declined after World War II ended because of tightened American controls over travel and commerce inside America. Today KeyWest is still a major tourist destination with activities ranging from fashion shopping to swimming & snorkeling among others
The Keys were first visited by Europeans in 1513, when the Portuguese navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral landed on Key West. The area was part of Spanish Florida until 1821, when it became a US territory. In 1898, the US acquired the rest of Florida, and Key West became an integral part of the new state. The city experienced significant growth during World War II due to its close proximity to naval bases and other military installations. Today, key west is a thriving tourist destination with easy access to all that the area has to offer.
