Key Biscayne, Florida is located on the southern coast of Miami-Dade County and has a population of over 168,000. The city was founded in 1904 as a small fishing village named Key Largo. It became an important naval and military base during World War II, and today it is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful beaches, world-renowned golf courses, and luxurious hotels. The history of Key Biscayne goes back to 1884 when dredging began on the site that would eventually become Key Biscayne. At first, the fishermen who used to live here did so by chartering boats out into the bay. But as time passed and more land was developed around key West Beach (now known as Sunrise Boulevard), some of the original fishermen decided to move their businesses to what would now be called Key Biscayne. One of the first areas that came under development in Key Biscayne was what is now downtown. This area includes most ofmodern day Downtown Miami including manyhistoric buildings such as The Star-Boat Saloon which still stands today and has been preserved as part of Miami’s history museum since 1924. In 1908, construction began on what is nowknownas “The Green Mile” housing project which served primarily low-income residents in eastern Coral Gables at 401 SW 1st St.. Today this complex still houses apartments and does not open to the public but it remains one ofMiami’s most iconic addresses

Key Biscayne, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The community was founded in 1912 by the Keyes family. The Keyes family ran a farm and resort here until the 1970s. In 1978, the Keys were donated to the University of South Florida for use as a research center. Today, Key Biscayne is known for its diverse culture and history. The earliest residents of Key Biscayne were Native American traders and their families who arrived in 1837 from what is now Canada. They traded With other tribes before settling on this land which they named "Biscayne" after two key members of their tribe- Big John and Little John (the brothers). The first Europeans to establish themselves in Key Biscayne were Spanish colonists who built a fortification here in 1565. Afterward, Englishman began coming here as well until 1795 when they ceded this land to Spain following their war with France. After America gained independence from Spain, key aspects of American life such as religions and education were introduced into this region including French culture which persists to this day among some notable residents like former President George H.W Bush Sr.. After America's victory over Great Britain at Yorktown in 1781, young George Washington decided that his new nation needed an anchorage on the southern tip of Florida so he moved his headquarters from Newburgh to Fort Lauderdale during his stay here in 1784-85.. Many years later when Congress created Miami-Dade County it included all or part of both Broward County (north) and Palm Beach County (south). When county commissioners met at Five Points Tavern on Roosevelt Boulevard on December 3rd 1881 they voted 7–2 to add Biscayne Island within Miami-Dade limits; however only 2 out of 12 commissioners attended because one had gone home for Christmas! At that meeting Commissioners Robert Burns Pashley (from PlantationKey West)and Wm Kernan(of Coral Gables/Miami)agreed to sell part of their holdings for $1 million dollars payable within 10 years (!), setting off an intense bidding process that continues today among developers interested in acquiring property along Lincoln Road/ Old Cutler Road just south of airport boundaries! By 1883 there were more than 50 properties being offered for sale with prices ranging from $10 per acre up to $25 per acre! outraged locals quickly gathered around Five Points tavern where Commissioner Pashley announced that any property sold would be given back free if not accepted by local citizens within 24 hours! However only 8 properties were sold during the 10 year period leading up to Commissioner Pashley's decision making becoming known as "The Landowners' War." Only 1 property still remains extant - 9 acres near Vero Beach - currently under private ownership In 1912 Key Biscayne was renamed "Key Largo" after Commodore James K1erling whoadinged US Ship Osprey here during World War I while supplies continued arriving via docked ship at nearby Coconut Grove Naval Station . Commodore K1erling also built several smaller structures including a Masonic Temple & Southern Methodist Church here which remain standing today . He died suddenly while commanding US Ship Osprey off shore January 1913 shortly before she made her maiden voyage ..... In 1951 Forbes magazine ranked #5th Among 25 U.S Towns Ranked For Economic Development By Forbes Magazine .... From 1951 through 1990 most population growth took place inside city limits with about 20% growth occurring outside city boundaries ............... Many famous people have resided or visited herein such as: Presidents Harry Truman & Dwight D Eisenhower; Prime Ministers Of Canada Sir John A Macdonald & Ernest Salinger; Hollywood celebrities Katharine Hepburn (& Cary Grant ), William Holden (& Rita Hayworth ); numerous athletes including Usain Bolt (!); legal figures Al Capone (& Roy Cohn ); architects Beaux Arts buildings housing many famous stores etc ................. As previously mentioned many areas still retain significant populations although majority has departed over time .................... Two terms defined commonly associated with key biscoe are 'The Keys' & 'Pineapple Hill'.
Biscayne Key is a small, unincorporated community located on Biscayne Bay in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is bordered by the city of Miami to the south and east, and Kendall Park to the north. The community was established in 1913 by property owners who leased their land from the Cermak brothers. It became an incorporated municipality in 1973.
