The shooting of target holders began in Jupiter, Florida in the early 1800s. Shooter George Washington used a stake to hold targets for his men at Fort Pickens on Pensacola Bay. The first targets were made from pine logs and game horns. In 1853, Clifton Gray developed a new type of target holder which allowed shooters to hit their targets with greater accuracy. Gray's target holders were designed to be lightweight and easy to use. By 1865, alligator clubs had replaced stakes as the primary means of holding targets in Jupiter. In 1912, Wernher von Braun developed the Redstone Arsenal's first ballistic missile system, nicknamed Project Orion. Due to its importance,Project Orion was highly classified and only a few people were privileged enough to see it firsthand. Some of these individuals included JPL Director Dr. Leo Kesselring and General Eisenhower himself. After witnessing Project Orion for the first time, General Eisenhower ordered all rifle-toting soldiers be redirected from Europe towards America's newest weapons development center - White Sands Missile Range! When it came time for testing of Project Orion's newly created guided missiles, Colonel James Doolittle led an incredibly daring mission that would change history by becoming one of the most successful aerial engagements in history! Doolittle flew his beloved F4U Corsair into battle against Japanese Zero fighters over Japan’s Honshu Peninsula on July 20th 1944 during Operation Overlord! This event is often considered as one of World War II’s greatest achievements! In 1912 Gertrude Jekyll founded Key Biscayne National Monument which includes much of today's downtown Jacksonville along with some notable historically important sites including St Augustine Cathedral and Palace (now known as historic Black Park) where she lived while working as a maid for President James Buchanan during his visit there in 1857; Asbury Park Springs where she took her final breath after diagnosing tuberculosis; Mount Dora State Forest about five miles east of Jacksonville; Coconut Creek Estates near Coral Gables; Andros Island off Jupiter's southern coast which served as a penal colony from 1898 until its abolition in 1902; Juanita Island southeast of Jacksonville off US 1 just south of Everglades National Park (now part of Polk County) In 1925, Hurricane Flora destroyed most or allof Key Biscayne while leaving behind extensive damage throughout much or allOF Jacksonville including many homes and businesses that remain standing today including St Augustine Cathedral which still functions as a religious place Congregational minister Revd Dr Keyes preached at before being moved into what is now Museum building in 1907 within touching distance OF Flora's destructive path In 1926 Hurricane Andrew caused widespread damage across much or allOFJacksonville especially downtown but left few houses or businesses standing hurricane winds gusts up to 130 mph were reportedand rain fell for days aftermath saw nearly total loss both physically & emotionally life threatening flooding occurrednd over $1 billion was spent rescuing citizens & animals

By 1830, there were enough people living in Jupiter to form a government and they made themselves an incorporated town. With so many people living in one place, there were plenty of jobs for them to do. The town grew quickly and by 1850, it had more than 20 residents. By 1870, Jupiter had become an important community because of its location and its commerce. It also became very rich from its phosphate mining operations. In 1908, when Jacksonville was founded as a city, Jupiter became part of that city’s boundaries
On February 14, 1812, a party of men and boys under the command of Commodore James K. Polk sailed from Key West with the intention of exploring new lands in the Florida Keys. They reached Jupiter on March 3 and began their exploration by landing on an uninhabited island. The men set about constructing a small fortification to protect themselves from Indian attacks. On April 1, they discovered the first landmass on Jupiter - an islet named Isabella - and began to explore it. They soon realized that there was much more to this islet than they had expected. They found evidence that another group of people had been living here before them, and they named this group the "Florida Islanders." The Florida Islanders were not hostile toward the Americans, but they did not know how to live in an all-American environment. In fact, many of them never left their islet again until after America acquired Florida in 1821.
