These glasses featured an embedded lens that protected shooters from ricochet injuries caused by Bullets passing through transparent glass lenses. In 1955, safety goggles became available as part of high school sporting events in America and quickly became popular among shooters across different demographics. Jupiter, Florida is a small town located in Pinellas County, Florida. The population was 10,437 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Jupiter" was given to the town by George Washington Carver in 1928. In 1938, it was renamed after Jupiter Hill in Sanford, Florida because that's where Carver had his home and research center. A post office called Jupiter was established in 1892, and remained open until 1959. The first settlers were farmers who came to the area from Georgia and North Carolina. They named their land after Poseidon, their patron god. The business community around Jupiter began developing during the late 1800s when lumber companies started to come to the area looking for new land to build pulp mills on. By 1915, there were over 20 businesses in Jupiter with a total payroll of $2 million dollars! In 1925, Postmaster General Frank Larkin ordered all US Postal Service ZIP codes be reclassified as “ towns” so that service could be better focused within local communities across America. As a result of this change, Jupiter became one of only six towns in Pinellas County that received an increase in mail volume from 1% to 5%. It wasn’t until 1955 when electric streetlights were brought into town – making it possible for businesses located along 8th Avenue N to start using headlights instead of oil lamps due to popular demand! Jupiter, Florida was founded in 1835 by John J. Worth and the Brothers Cooke. It became a U.S. Territory in 1907. The name of the town was changed to Jupiter in 1916 because it had become one of the most important cotton-growing areas in Florida. In 1947, Jupiter became a city and is now part of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The area that now comprises Jupiter was originally only part of what is now Miami-Dade County. The towns of Cutler and Sunrise were founded adjacent to Jupiter on either side of Biscayne Bay on the mainland Miami Peninsula. When much of SouthFlorida was bought by New York City in 1898, these two Towns merged into one municipality known as Miami Beach which included both Cutler and Sunrise along with all of present day Broward County including parts of Homestead, Hollywood and Overtown
The first Spanish settlement in Jupiter, Florida was made by Pedro Menendez de Avila in 1565. The town of Jupiter was named for the planet Jupiter, which at that time was only a small star. In 1763, Captain James Cook discovered and mapped the island of Flavelia off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida. This led to what is now known as the Jose Taboada Massacre, when Lieutenant José Taboada killed several Native Americans after discovering their village had been betrayed by Captain Cook. As part of its efforts to expand into new areas of South America, Spain established a military post on the island of Cuba in 1810. In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, General Antonio López de Santa Anna attacked and captured Gibraltar from British forces under Lieutenant-General Winfield Scott. To commemorate this event, General Santa Anna renamed Gibraltar "Jupiter" in honor of Spanish Emperor Napoleon I's victory over Alexander Stephens at Buena Vista Zapata on October 21st 1814. Shortly thereafter, Governor Manuel Miranda established a government center on Jupiter Island with general storage and trade facilities for goods coming into and going out of Florida. The following year saw an influx of white settlers when members of the American Revolutionary army arrived in Tampa Bay looking for refuge from British troops stationed there; they founded Fort Brooke on nearby Stonington Sound (now part of Port Everglades). By 1821 much agriculture had been developed on Jupiter Island: fruit trees were grown near town square; sugarcane plantations were located along bothwest coasts; cotton plantations were located eastward around present day Miami Beach. By 1830 about 100 people lived on Jupiter Island including 20 farmers and their families who raised livestock and manufactured goods using charcoal ovens or hand looms called “jupiter looms” since no electricity existed then. By 1840 there were 350 residents living on Jupiter Island with 120 farmers and their families who raised pigs, chickens, cows and horses while also manufacturing items such as saltpeter lamps or panes for windows using lime mortar or clay mortar mixed with water to form a hard surface that could be polished without leaving streaks or fingerprints
