Jupiter has a rich history dating back to 1851 when it was founded as a Seminole town called Fort Jackson by General James K. Polk during his military campaigns in the area. Downtown Jacksonville also experienced significant gentrification beginning in the late 1990s as institutional investors purchased land near Interstate 10 for mixed-use redevelopment that has since become known as Buckhead (Kramer & Haines 2008; Kramer & Haines 2009; Keller2011) . As seen throughout metropolitan Jacksonville there are distinct pockets of high-end live music venues strip malls anchored by large banks that have been replaced over time with traditional retail outlets catering increasingly towards younger generations who are more likely than older ones to have their own vehicles (Lopez 2016). There is also an increasing trend among older adults towards retirement or semi-retirement living outside of Jacksonville which will impact both downtown business districts as well as suburban communities located adjacent thereto (Goudreau2016).
