This move by Jackson helped spur development in Mobile Bay region by creating new markets for products such as cotton and iron ore which became exports from MobileBay throughout much of Southeast Alabama until those areas were taken over by Atlanta during Reconstruction following America's Civil War (1861-1868). However,Jackson also had plans forJacksonville which called for construction of a railroad from TampaBay through downtown Jacksonville to Tallahassee so that items could be shipped directly from TampaBay intoMobile Bay instead of going through Pensacola or Tallahassee where there was already ample transportation options available at that time.
