Carlisle Street Baptist Church--still standing today--became his stomping ground while he performed there regularly between 1935-1937! Another early resident of Jacksonville was Confederate General John Bate Wallace who served two terms as Mayor before dying suddenly unmarried at age 54 years old in 1888 when money troubles forced him into retirement following a successful campaign for state senate! With new stadiums coming available all along Interstate 95 starting to suburbanize Jaguars hopes plummeted until developer Edward Lunsford purchased land near EverBank Fieldhouse across I-95 from amateurs Leonard Hixon's Buccaneers making plans to build one oflargest sports facilities east coast when construction started! 1st & 5th Avenues NW - now Edwards Ave NW - once housed BankAtlantic Financial Corporation...Ft Myers Rd Bridge crossing Fredonia Rd collapsed on May 14th 1924 resulting injures 4 people & destroyed homes forming Fort Myers Country Club which still stands today... Jacksonville wasn't always sosleepy during its day job hours!. On March 3rd 1900 Jax newspapers reported that William Crain had bought 725 acres north of town along Suwannee River for $10 per acre ($140 per square foot)...this plot would become known as Miracle Mile; development followed soon after!! On November 17th 1903 an earthquake struck Japan uniting all islands under Japanese rule with Yokohama becoming quickly overwhelmed with refugees fleeing especially because they did not have any food or water!!! This quake spawned tsunamis that swept through many coastal towns waterfront villages etc leaving behind devastated neighborhoods some still living below water level up until recently!!!!!! Many people believe this quake may have been caused by an extraterrestrial event!!!!! After World War II many jobs moved away inland again however some businesses like First National Bank remain unchanged since those days including current anchor store Macy’s location right off US 1!!! Over time some major attractions have popped up like Disneyworld which opened back up here earlier this year !! Mainstreet corridor has seen significant redevelopment over recent decades with almost every corner having something unique going on......such as Artisan Market Hall being redeveloped into apartments/condos currently under construction.....We are blessed each day we call Jacksonville home
