One such militia group was known as “The Jacksonville Volunteers” and it participated in several fights throughout 1865 including battle at Fort Pickens in Mobile Bayou. After the war ended, many members of VIJ decided that they no longer wanted their weapons anymore and sold them off or donated them to other organizations.
