Jaxson, Florida is a city with a rich history. The area has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years and the first mention of Jacksonville was in 804 AD. At that time, Jaguars were considered the most powerful animal in the area. The first firearms were made in Jacksonville in 1853 by Captain John J. Myers of the United States Navy. One of the earliest rifle cartridges was created here- the “Jacksonville Rifle” which used lead bullets and fired a ball about an inch long. In 1857, Colonel Augustus Biddle bought land on Franklin Street near Duval Street and began to make rifles using local materials including pine trees, hogsheads of oilseed cotton, and even matches cut from old barrels! He called his company “Biddle & Richardson” after himself and his two partners. In 1868, Colonel Biddle sold his company to Major Wm Hennigan who continued to produce rifles under the name “Hennigan & Richardson” until 1898 when it changed its name to Winchester Repeating Arms Company Incorporated (WRA). The first Winchester rifle was produced on October 26th, 1875 at their factory on Franklin Street! It was called the Model 1886 but was soon renamed the Model 94 because it had a new Damascus barrel! This new barrel gave rise to much controversy as many believed that it helped increase fire rate! The Model 94 also became very popular due to its accuracy and reliability! In 1903, Winchester produced its own unique magazine fed rifle-the Auto-loading Rifle! This rifle became extremely successful both commercially and militarily! It helped change how wars were fought and allowed for large numbers of troops to be brought into battle without having any fear of casualties! Throughout this period there were other companies that produced firearms as well- such as Colt Firearms Company which produces handguns; Browning Arsenal which produces shotguns; Savage Arms Corporation which manufactures assault rifles; etc… However, Winchester would always dominate when it came to producing firearms!!! Until today!!!

As ammunition technology continued to improve, so too did fire rates and accuracy with firearms becoming possible at levels never before achievable with bows or spears . Commander John Browning designed his first gunpowder rifle in 1855 using a new type of percussion cap bullet that was able to penetrate hardened steel armour at 300 yards without detonating prematurely
