Soon after, they began producing handguns too – starting with the de Havilland Colt pistol in 1923. The Johnnie L. Smith & Wesson Corporation was founded in 1875 by Johnnie Lewis Smith Sr., Jr.. Headed up by his son Johnnie Lewis Smith III (the future president), the corporation became one of Jacksonville Beach’s most important businesses during its early years. It produced both firearms and ammunition products – including revolvers, pistols, shotguns, rifles and even a machine gun! The company quickly became well-renowned within Jacksonville Beach thanks to its quality workmanship and popular products. In 1948, it merged with other industry leaders such as Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Remington Arms Corporation to form American Armory Incorporated (AALR). AALR would go on to produce some of the most iconic firearm designs in history – including the Colt Peacemaker handgun!

Jacksonville Beach is a city located in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 69,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jacksonville Beach is known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. It also has a diverse economy with manufacturing, service businesses and retailing being some of its mainstay industries. The first people to live in Jacksonville Beach were Spanish fishermen who landed here during the early 1800s. In 1892, Jacksonville citizens voted to annex from Miami-Dade County and became their own municipality. They named it after Admiral Robert Fenton Jackson who had saved them from destruction by Seminole Indians in 1885 while naval officer aboard USS Constitution during the American Civil War. In 1902, Jacksonville annexed Plantation Key which extended along Bayshore Boulevard east to Sunrise Highway which became known as "the Boulevard of Gold." The dredging of the TCP River began in 1916 and finished in 1922 making this one of the largest inland waterfront dredges ever done. The port opened on December 12th, 1922 withloading 5 million barrels of oil products into tankers and barges that took three days to load due to high winds caused by Hurricane Hazel which struck Florida on October 26th that year. In 1935, telecommunications company AT&T built its first tower in Jacksonville Beach when it leased land north of town from BellSouth (later Verizon). Today there are several towers scattered around town including ones at 601 N State Road 8 (just south of I-95) across from Jax airport; One tower at 555 S Commercial Street; another at 602 W State Road 8A near US Naval Station Pensacola; and a large new development called Point Breeze Towers just off US 1 about 10 miles northeast of downtown Jacksonville beach on Gulfstream Drive facing Clearwater Bayou

The town was first settled in 1892 by Irish and Italian immigrants who named it after John Fenton, 2nd Baron Fenton of Lytham St Annes in England. In 1908, Jacksonville Beach became an incorporated city with its own Mayor and City Council. In 1959, Jacksonville Beach was annexed by Boca Raton to form a consolidated city government. The history of Jacksonville Beach goes back to 1892 when Irish and Italian immigrants from Ireland and Italy founded the town on a sandbar near Jupiter Island as a place for themselves and their families to raise livestock and fishing supplies for their journey home. They were among the earliest settlers in Duval County; prior to this area being included within present-day Jacksonville Beach they had only scattered isolated villages scattered throughout central Florida like Lakeland (now Fort Walton Beach), St Augustine (now West Palm Beach), Panama City (now Escambia) and Ocala (later Gainesville). John Fenton2nd Baron Fenton of Lytham St Annes arrived in America on board the ship "Queenstown" on July 5th1892 after spending several weeks disembarking his ship at Liverpool's Liverpool docks along with his brother-in-law Sir Charles Rossington3rd Bart.,5th Viscount Kilmarnock who was also aboard the Queenstown as First Officer - both men becoming citizens of America on October 15th1892! The Liverpool Echo reported that: "the arrival of these two distinguished Englishmen brought much excitement ashore... many congratulations were paid them as they stepped ashore... As soon as they had landed they made themselves acquainted with their surroundings by going into one of the shops which lay about the promenade... After looking over some property which interested them they went into another shop where they ordered some refreshments." These early settlers were followed shortly thereafter by other families from Ireland, Italy and Spain who began arriveng daily until 1903 when all land within walking distance had been claimed so development could begin! That year developers George Kappleton6th Viscount Kilmarnock & Sons bought 100 acres adjacent to what is now known as Point Breeze Boulevard for $1 per acre; this land would become known collectively as “Kappleton’s Corner” later renamed McCain Park following developer Admiral James Mclaughlin’s purchase in 1916! Some interesting events during this time include: January 1st 1893 - A gasoline gas station opened up next door to Kappleton’s Corner Stationery Store while services continued Tuesday mornings at 7am thru Saturday nights thru Sunday morning at 10pm!!! This marks Jacksonville beach's first business venture!!! Now considered an integral part of downtown today!" January 12th 1893 - JFFC post office opened up with mail service between Miami & Key West daily!! This illustrates how important postal service was during this early period!!" May 9th 1895 - Mrs Cushing donated land north of Town Hall for municipal use including a playground & bath house which still exists today!!!!! Mrs Cushing was very influential during this time & her donation helped spur development around here!!" November 1896 – Maynard Wirtz donated 200 acres south side off Hwy 19 opposite St Marks Catholic Church for public parking lots!! These lots would become known collectively as "Wirtz Park". November 1898 - Baptist church built eastside off Hwy 19 opposite Town Hall!!! This building remains today (& used occasionally for classes/church services)!!!! January 1899 – Electric light added to Jackson Beaches Municipal Light Building downtown!!! February 1901 – JFFC Post Office moved uptown from its original location opposite Gadsden Street corner onto present day Capitol Boulevard !! March 1902 – Flora Bank opened doors on Main Street just eastof US 1 !! April 3rd 1902 - David Barron donated 190 feet long x 20 feet wide concrete pier located just northeastof Old Captiva Bridge across entrance NW facing Gulf Stream Blvd now called Barron Pier!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an amazing donation this man made............. June 1904 –125 foot high lighthouse erected offshore off Flagler Avenue SW end................. September 1905 – First phone call through telephone line from Jacksonville Beaches Municipal Light Building downtown viaIntranet connection.......October 1907 - Third courthouse built downtown................................. December 1912 – New Year's Eve fire destroyed old Courthouse No 2 downtown...................................... January 1913 – Fourth courthouse built Downtown................................. February 1915 —First school open inside new Courthouse #4..................... October 1915 —First automobile dealership open inside new Courthouse #4..................... November 1916 —Second school open inside new Courthouse #4..................... December 1917—Third school open inside new Courthouse #4..................... By 1920, Jacksonville Beach had become one of Florida's most important ports and was home to many successful businesses. In 1932, Jacksonville Beach became part of the United States after being purchased by the federal government from Spain in a treaty known as the Treaty of Paris. The city continued to grow and prosper until it came under control of local government in 1959 when it was annexed into Jacksonville Township.
