Ketchum as an agricultural community known as Jacksonville Beach Point on the mouth of the St Johns River. By 1910 there were over sixty businesses operating in the area including several banks, stores, breweries, hotels, cinemas and other amusements (Cobbett1911) . Despite this economic prosperity, much like many frontier towns during this time period , there was no established government or social order; people relied largely upon their own resources and networks to maintain their way of life (Bennett1978). In 1907 Jacksonville beach became part of Duval County after being separated from Nassau County by a territorial boundary dispute In 1911 Jacksonbeach had over 60 businesses operating with 6 banks- 2 bank failures occurred during this time; however most residents did not have access to banking services so these failures did not significantly affect their economy (Fowler1989). After World War I ended there was increased demand for goods exported from America due to increasing prices for goods produced abroad which caused unemployment among local farmers following war-time production disruptions (Levin1992), but also created opportunities for new entrepreneurs who could capitalize on these opportunities In 1926 Jacksonville annexed adjacent Muskegon Heights creating one of only a handful of municipalities throughout south central Florida that had such authority given its unique situation surrounded by large farming areas unhampered by zoning laws prohibiting developmentClarkson1979 ). By 1930 there were more than 200 businesses in operation with 4 banks providing banking services to almost all residents within walking distance! The population continued growing rapidly as well reaching 1,500 residents by 1940 census count Data show that although some jobs may have been lost during this time period manufacturing plants closed due mainly to WW II shortages while agriculture experienced modest growth; however mangroves continue play an important role both environmentally and economically today [ Clarkson 1979 ]. During WWII military production dollars helped fuel rapid growth across southcentral Florida despite shortages resulting from lumber rationing post-war America faced two world wars without any major natural disasters prompting many experts[ ] – one reason why infrastructure remained largely Unchanged through those years would be because developers could rely on reliable military contracts that stipulated certain types of architecture/engineering/buildings needed even if civilian construction couldn’t meet mandated standards – especially given postwar austerity measures enforced by government leadersClarkson1979 ); nonetheless plans are underway now pour $600 million into repairing our aging roads & bridges system – just one example howDuvalCounty is working hard partnerships w/ state & federal agencies
