Pershing ordered all American troops to leave Jacksonville Beach after learning about their involvement in the war from local residents. In 1924, the first liquefied gas plant was built in Jacksonville Beach and it began producing gasoline for local cars and businesses. In 1933, Interstate 95 was constructed through the city limits and it made travel between Jacksonville Beach and other parts of Florida much easier. In 1941, during World War II, Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor which destroyed much of downtown Honolulu; this led to an increase in business activity around Jacksonville Beach as people moved to provide support for their loved ones back at home. After the war ended, many businesses closed but some continued to operate until they were eventually shut down due to new regulations put into place following the war. In 1964-1966, several large storms swept across Florida including one that killed over 50 people along with extensive damage throughout central Florida; this event is commonly known as Hurricane Andrew or simply “the storm” due to its destructive power). As a result of these powerful storms., many homes were destroyed or heavily damaged and new construction wasn't possible until later in that decade.; resulting in a lot of abandoned buildings sitting derelict today on portions of Jaguarsbeach that used to be bustling commercial districts centuries ago
