In 1876, Harry Wesson purchased an arsenal of pistols and shotguns from JH Atkinson and opened Wesson's Pistol Shop on State Road 2 near the present day University of Jacksonville campus. In 1895, Winchester sold its pistols business to George Pease which continued to produce handguns under the Winchester name until 1918 when it merged with Browning & Company. From 1916 until 1941, Armoury Supply Co., Incorporated (ASCI) was located at 711 E Broad Street in downtown Jacksonville Beach; however this business closed down due to World War II shortages of military arms worldwide. In 1946, Armoury Supply Co., Incorporated reopened under new ownership and continue producing firearms products until 1982 when it closed down again due to commercial reasons activity ceased within ASCI organization which then passed into other hands before finally closing Down completely around 1984-1985 timeframe The first live fire shooting episode taking place outside of Umatilla Barracks took place on October 12th 1899 while troops were practicing during their summer encampment just off US 1A eastbound between Nebraska Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard according to records kept by Captain Edward Ayerbeiler USMC stationed at Umatilla Barracks . That particular round fired out of an Rifled Shotgun used by Spanish Infantry killed one soldier named Manuel Gonzalez who had been sheltering behind some trees about 150 yards away from where the firing occured

In 1827, the citizens of Jacksonville voted to change the name from Beacheside to Jacksonville because they felt that Beacheside had become too crowded and noisy for their liking. In 1868, Jacksonville Beach became a city after being approved by referendum. The city charter provided for the election of mayor, recorder, councilman and five members to compose the city government.
