In addition to all these businesses there are also several homes built during various periods such as Edward Jones’s Mansion built 1912-13 or Harry House built 1916! In addition to all this there are many historical markers throughout town documenting these various aspects of life in Homestead over the years!

In 1870, Congress approved the construction of Fort Lauderdale Fortifications which led to more people coming to Homestead. By 1880, there were over 1,000 residents living in Homestead. In 1906, Mayor Asbury Pompous proposed that an amusement park be built on what is now State Road 546. This proposal was approved by the City Council and construction began soon after. The park attracted many tourists who contributed to helping make Homestead a thriving community during its early years. Today, Homestead remains a vibrant community with many active businesses and cultural events happening each year!

In 1836, following Seminole War hostilities, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and moved its capital to Tampa. In 1845, Congress passed the homestead law, which provided for the purchase of land for freehold owners who had contributed $100 or more to a national bank. The first homesteaders were those who had invested in real estate speculation during the Panic of 1837. By 1860, there were over 1 million people living in America on large tracts of undeveloped land. The Homestead Act became effective on July 16, 1862, when President Abraham Lincoln signed it into law as an act to encourage American development and prevent foreigners from taking advantage of America's resources. During World War I, U.S forces used Homestead as a training ground for artillerymen and pilots; after the war, many military installations were built there including Fort Myer and Camp Lejeune. In 1949, NBA champion Miami Heat player Shaquille O'Neal purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) at what is now Midtown Miami Beach near Biscayne Boulevard for $3 million dollars; he eventually developed it into one of South Florida's most important entertainment districts known today as "Miami Beach."
