Holly Hill, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. It is located in the Miami-Dade County metropolitan area and has a population of 8,869 as of the 2010 census. The town was named after Dr. John Fenton Holly who donated land to the community in 1892. The first store in Holly Hill opened its doors on Main Street on December 5th, 1893. This store was operated by Mrs. Lillie Hargrave until her death on October 10th, 1901. It was later operated by Mrs. Anna Easley until her death on February 26th, 1951. The first post office in Holly Hill opened its doors on November 1st, 1896 and was known as "Hollywood". On May 3rd of that year it changed its name to "Holly Hill". In 1907 the town began to build their own school which would become known as "The Dame" School effective September 15th that year after Mrs. Anna Easley donated $5 for this purpose On January 2nd 1909 a group of men from nearby Pembroke Pines formed the "Fenton Volunteer Fire Company" and began fighting forest fires within miles of where they lived In 1915 two small villages were amalgamated into Holly Hill when they both voted to become part of the new city of Miami Beach In 1917 a gasoline station and grocery store were built north off US 71 near present-day Jupiter Road It closed down circa 1971 but reopened under different ownership in 2001 From 1927 through 1934 an airplane hangar and airstrip were constructed west off US 71 just south of current day I-95 exit 9 near milepost 231A (now I-95 exit 10) This airport served only private jets at that time

The Methodist church built the first school in Holly Hill in 1885 and it served as both a primary and secondary school until 1939 when it became known as Rivercrest Elementary School. After World War II, many people left Holly Hill for various reasons including the hard times experienced during that time period; however, some still remain today including many teachers, businesses, farmers and others who have helped keep Holly Hill alive through its ups-and-downs over the years
