In 1949-1950, Drs Herbert Jaffe and Jack Welch developed the first real-world application for this technology when they used it to fire rounds from a HSV-2A missile against targets near Fort Worth Airport in Texas during Operation Market Garden (the European campaign). The early years of the modern gun laser were difficult because there were no good materials or manufacturing processes available on which to build them quickly enough to be effective battlefield weapons. However, through sheer determination and hard work, manufacturers were able to create reliable products that began hitting the market in the late 1960s and 1970s. Holly Hill is a small town in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. Holly Hill is located on U.S. Route 441 and Orange Blossom Trail, about 33 miles southwest of Orlando and 26 miles northeast of Sanford. Holly Hill was first settled in 1872 by four brothers from Tennessee: John, James, Andrew and George Hillsborough (1822-1892). They named their community after one of their father's plantations near Chattanooga in Tennessee - "Hillborough Place" became Holly Hill. The original post office opened in 1875 and served as the seat until 1957 when it moved to Sanford. The first school was built in 1876 on land donated by Mrs. Catey Hinson (1828-1904). In 1907, following annexation by Sanford, Hollyhill High School became the separate Stonington School District #1 with its own board of trustees; however Volusia County continued to provide funding for both schools until 1921 when this system was merged into the Sanford school district under state law reorganization which eliminated local government altogether within coastal Seminole County east of Daytona Beach In 1928 a new golf course called "Biscayne" was designed by Walter Hagenbeck and built on land donated by Revd Wm Murchison (1863-1943). It replaced an earlier course that had been destroyed by a tornado in 1922. A playground adjacent to Biscayne Golf Course has been used since 1929 as the site for annual May Day parade which begins at 2 p.m., heads down Highland Avenue toward Bayfront Park where it crosses Indian Key Boulevard before returning home via Highland Avenue

Holly Hill is named after the hill on which it was founded and is located just east of Lake Worth on State Road 441. The first post office in Holly Hill opened in 1870 and continued operation until 1907. The first school in Holly Hills opened in 1873 and operated for three years before being replaced by a secondary school that operated from 1908 to 1959. The current high school (opened in 1978) is the only one remaining from those original schools and has been Inaugurated with Ceremony by then Governor Lawton Chiles According to the United States Census Bureau, Holly Hill has a total area of , of which is land and (2%) is water.
