In early Hollyleigh, Florida in the 1920s there were only a few gun shops and sporting goods stores. The first store was opened by George S. Holcomb Jr. In 1932, the Store District Association (SDA) was formed to improve business conditions for gun dealers in Holly Hill and neighboring towns. The SDA created a board of directors to help manage the department, which included four representatives from each of the town's 10 villages. The first t-shirt was made in 1932 and featured an image of George S. Holcomb Jr.'s son, John Gentry Holcomb III who had started a local grocery store in Holly Hill that became one of the most successful businesses in town.

The town began to develop as a farming community with crops such as cotton, corn, and sugar beets being grown. In 1865, the United States acquired Florida from Spain and made it an official state. Holly Hill became a part of Palm Beach County and remained an agricultural center until World War II when industry took hold and jobs disappeared. After the war, the town declined further and fell into obscurity until it regained its former prominence during the late 20th century because of progress made by local entrepreneurs.
