TheBattleofHollyHill took place on July 12, 1815 near present-day Holly Hill when United States Marines and Seminole Indians fought against each other over control of a sugar plantation named Fort Brooke which belonged to Captain John Taylor (the original owner). The battle ended with a U.S.-Marine victory and the capture of three Indian chiefs; this event helped solidify U.S.-Indian relations and gain support from Great Britain during the Mexican War In 1865, following Reconstruction within America after the American Civil War (1861-1865), Escambia County was reorganized into 11 districts which were divided among four counties: Escambia (including Holly Hill), Alachua (including St Marys Island), Putnam (including Clearwater Beach), and Leonidas Polk’s district including Tampa Bay area - all now included within Hillsborough County . In 1929, Escambia County annexed part of Pinellas County resulting in a total population increase from 14,000 to 30,000 people . In 1990 Hurricane Andrew destroyed parts of easternEscambiaCounty including HollyHilland left many buildings uninhabitable . As result , most residents relocated away from what is now called “Holly hill Estates” located east side Of HillsboroughCounty close To Lakeland
In the early 1800s, Holly Hill was a small farming community in southeast Florida. The region was rich in natural resources, including sugar cane and oak trees. In 1835, Governor John Martin established Holly Hill as the county seat of Hardee County. The town grew rapidly and soon became known for its fine cotton plantations along the St Johns River. By 1840, Holly Hill had a population of 1,500 people and was home to two churches and a school. During the Civil War, Holly Hill was occupied by Confederate forces for several months in 1861-1862. After the war, most of the land that now makes up Holly Hill was acquired by United States Government officials as part of Addison Plantation near Miami. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak around 1870-1875 when it had a population of 10,000 people. However, due to economic reasons (such as competition from larger towns), Holly Hill declined significantly during this time period. Today only a few scattered remains remain of the original townspeople and their homes dating back to the 1800s
