The area that is now Hialeah was first inhabited by Native Americans and began to be developed as a trading center in the late 1700s. In 1822, Captain James A. Brooke purchased land in what is now Hialeah from the Seminole Tribe. He named it "Blacksburg" after his home state of Virginia. In 1835, General John Czarnecki took possession of Blacksburg and laid out a new town on the site of Blackstocksburgh. It wasnamed Hialeah after he received word that a group of Seminoles had fled to Miami-Dade County, Florida and founded an independent village there called "Hialeah". In 1848, Spanish settlers arrived in what is now Hialeah and they name it "Tenerife". They built a castle on Concepcion Hill which served as their summer home until 1855 when they moved away due to political unrest in Cuba. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces invaded South Florida and sacked Blacksburg; this event is generally considered to have started the war in Florida. The town continued to exist for some time afterward but it eventually surrendered to Union forces on November 30th 1865. After the war ended, black militiamen were drafted into Union armies and many people who lived near Blacksburg died at battle or from disease contracted while fighting for their countrymen. The town experienced a resurgence starting around 1970 when developers started building upscale subdivisions near Interstate 95 and State Road 790A (now US 1). The popularity of those areas led developers to start building more high-end homes here again which has resulted in increased business activity throughout much of downtown Hialeah includingAlong I-95 corridor between downtown & Biscayne Boulevard - becoming one of Americas most vibrant neighborhoods

A post office was established in 1892, and by 1902 Hialeah had a population of 100 residents. A sawmill and gristmill were built in 1903; these remain operational to this day. Other early businesses included a bakery and post office. In 1916 coconut oil was discovered in Hialeah; it would become one of the few industries to thrive here during the Great Depression. The construction boom that followed brought new people and jobs to Hialeah, but also increased pollution from industry and development along Biscayne Bay which has since beenudiated by Everglades National Park . Hialeah experienced its greatest growth between 1950s through 1990s when many orange groves were developed along Biscayne Boulevard corridor; however now there are only scattered residential units remaining from that time period as well as some contributing resources such as churches and schools dating back to that time period Many current residents have grown up or spent their formative years here including many who continue to reside or work here today

However, with suburban development popping up throughout the area during this time period and job losses ensuing from World War II – when Hialeah lost many textile jobs – downtown business began to decline. However, due to aggressive marketing by local developers and support from Mayor Carlos Gimenez and other elected officials – including then-Commissioner Askew – downtown experienced a resurgence beginning in the 1990s that has seen nightlife become more popular than ever before and new development bring new jobs back into town. In recent years there have been efforts made by both mayor Gimenez and county commissioners To revive downtown but these have not always been successful; however they do maintain an important role in overall economic development within the city limits. Today's downtown is still walled off from most residents except for special events such as historical reenactments or concerts which are often conducted on Fort Myers Beach across the street from what used to be Downtown Hialeah’s main thoroughfare until recently (prior to 2007 it was Biscayne Boulevard). While much of what used to make DowntownHialeah so vibrant has disappeared since then (e.g., brick buildings replaced with modern materials), much remains unchanged including some notable architecture such as The Mayflower Hotel which opened in 1923 on Vine Street (now part of One America Financial Center) opposite Bank of America Stadium - two blocks south of where it once stood - before becoming a Target store after bank relocation following National Football League expansion in 1966 In spite of its small size relative to other cities within Miami-Dade County - only having a population of 100,000 at 2000 Census - currently there are more than 350 active businesses operating within DowntownHialeah〙s boundaries alone according to 2016 data collected by our partners at Manta Rayz LLC pursuantto ordinance #2015-008
