On February 14, 1888, Mayor Manuel “Manny” Alvarez died after being elected to his third term without having been able to take office because he had not received enough votes from the citizens of Miami-Dade County. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Miami-Dade County. According to historian Edwin Moseley Jr., “Hialeah is one of America’s most ancient cities with documented roots dating back to 1835 when Jacksonville immigrants settled hereabouts on what are now known as Northwest First Street and Fourth Avenue NW…. According to local legend, the first white person born in this area [was] John A. Macdonald who served as Mayor of Jacksonville from 1849 until his death in 1850; he is also interred at Calvary Cemetery there…. Amongst other things accomplished by Mr. Macdonald were helping to establish public transportation within town limits by building roads and bridges; developing trade with Key West; promoting education through acquiring an institution called Stonington College (now University Of Central Florida); founding Masonic Lodge #2 (later United Palms Lodge #2) – all while serving as Mayor; serving on many civic committees including that which developed downtown plaza today….. From its incorporation into Miami-Dade County in 1888 until 1964 when it merged with Broward County to form South Florida Regional Intelligence Command under Commander Maj Gen William Jobe USAF/Retired), Hialeah played an important role both politically and economically within our burgeoning metropolis…. Today we enjoy vibrant cultural life full of art galleries, theatres and nightlife options that reflect our unique heritage." The entertainment industry has long been a mainstay of Hialeah since its inception as a small town located near Tampa Bay.. In 1967, MGM opened its largest movie theater complex ever outside Hollywood when they built The Coliseum inside Century Link Field – seating over 250000 people! Paramount Pictures followed suit just two years later when they built their own large complex across Northeast Second Street from City Hall Plaza (now Boca Raton Convention Center). National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) added another large block between Northeast First Street and Eastern Boulevard NE in 1975 creating Citrus Bowl Stadium which seated over 67000 people! That same year saw paint dry on Congress Park Drive due to developers planning to build condos next door! Today you can still see evidence of that development - some destroyed homes have been replaced with new ones while others remain standing testament to how popular live music events were back then! Hialeah has also been home ground for professional baseball games throughout its history including those played at Sun Life Stadium between 1979 and 2010 before moving Joint Base Andrews into that space permanently due To budget constraints……… As mentioned earlier Hialeah enjoyed several decades hosting major college football championships such as the 2008 championship game featuring Alabama vs Auburn…………….. . Finally starting play following Hurricane Irma caused stadium occupancy restrictions prohibiting stadium tours or photos inside until September 30th following instructions given by event organizer Great American Flag Tours………………... Overall HIALEAH has experienced several waves of population growth paralleling each major hurricane season making this one stop you would do if visiting South Florida !!!
