After the closure of the McNeal Rifle Company, many men and women in Hialeah Gardens decided to start their own companies manufacturing rifles and shotguns. Some of these companies were: The Gunsmiths Arms & Ammunition Co., The Rifles & Shotguns Manufacturing Co., The Pistol Shop, And The Gun Runner Firearms Corp.. These businesses continued production until 1962 when they too closed their doors. In 1926, Mayor Manuel Diaz designated the community as a city Limits Municipality due to its growing population size; however, it continued to be called "HIALEAH" until annexation intoMiami-Dade County in 1959. In 1951, construction began on what would become known as "The Lakeshore", one of America's first planned suburban developments west of downtown Miami on over 60 acres (24 ha). The development included three golf courses: PGA Champion Wentworth Golf Club (later renamed Arnold Palmer Course), Indian Wells Racquetball Park & Athletic Complex and Coral Gables Country Club (now Sun Life Stadium). The lakeshore also featured five large apartment buildings; two were built by developer Marvin Kappelman while the others were constructed by National City Bankshares Management Company Limited Partnership including One Herald Square which still stands today as one of South Beach's most popular addresses. As the years went on, more people moved into Hialeah Gardens including many famous celebrities who had homes there like Jackie Robinson, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis Presley and Fidel Castro among others.
