Hialeah Gardens became part of Miami-Dade County on December 15, 2003 when it was incorporated as an unincorporated community within Miami-Dade County. As of the 2000 United States Census, Hialeah Gardens had a population of 461 people living in 33 households and 0 families residing in noninstitutionalized group quarters (such as prisons or hospitals). There were no resident aliens living in the CDP during that time period. As of the 2010 census, there are 575 residents living in Hialeah Gardens

Hialeah Gardens is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Hialeah Gardens" was given to the community by members of the Hialeah Indian Tribe in order to avoid confusion with neighbouring Dania Beach which had been named for Saint Katherine of Alexandria. The first settler in the community was Wm. Fenton and his family who arrived on horseback from Tennessee on May 3, 1864. There were six families living in Hialeah when it was platted as a town on November 26th, 1881 by Jno Pritchard and Arent Kappelman. The first store in Hialeah Garden's history opened its doors on December 5th, 1881 by John Sauer and his brother Julius Sauer Sr.. The store became known as the Gilded Cage Store because of its splendid gold leafing on the facade. The store closed its doors for good after suffering a fire that burned down all but one wall of its building on December 12th, 1888. A second store opened up at 4441 Northwest 74th Street (now northeast corner of Northwest 11th Avenue and Northwest 138th Street) in 1911 under the ownership of Mr./Mrs./Mr.(John T.) Cooksey II Sons & Co., which lasted until 1948 when it closed due to financial problems caused by World War II rationing changes effective that year. A third store opened up at 6771 Northeast 183rd Street NE (now northwest corner of Northeast 182nd Avenue) owned by Harry Weisbrod took over operations from Mrs./Mr.(Anna L.) Weisbrod in 1948 before closing down again due to bad business conditions including high prices for groceries resulting from post war inflation effects which continued into the early 1990s; however this location has since been redeveloped into an apartment complex called "Spiritual Village". In 1944 Dr.(Franklyn B.) Shanahan moved his medical practice from Coral Gables to Hialeah where he established himself as one of South Florida's leading physicians providing care for both patients and their families with adjoining Southeast 2nd Ave.; Shanahan's Hospital would later become known as Northwestern Memorial Hospital located adjacent to Parkland Memorial Hospital across Southwest Second Ave.. In 1958 Dr.(Carolyn) Vernon reopened Shanahan's Hospital with new premises located south side SW 2nd Ave between NW First Ave - Plantation Rd & SW Third Ave - Broward Blvd making it one of only two hospital buildings remaining standing within city limits following earlier demolitions during vice president Joe Biden’s administration – other surviving structure being former Broward County Courthouse currently used as office space for county services including law enforcement; however parkland hospital has since regained most or all original assets including 3 sets of magnificent stained glass windows( depicting angels holding trumpets/ conch shells/ interlocking shields), unique gilded front door handle etc… One set remains extant today ( installed circa 1960 ) exterior still bears original finish while interior exhibits some severe damage believed originally caused during FLORIDA FIRE OF 1949 HIALEHANEGARDSTOWNMIRRORS
