With its two theme parks - "The Coliseum" which featured exhibition games and concerts and also housed a waterpark - HIALEAH GARDENS became one of South Florida's most popular tourist destinations during its heyday from the 1930s through 1960s. In 1967, following construction of Hollywood Boulevard nearby, Hughes Aircraft purchased portions of HIALEAH GARDENS for use as their site for their new plant before selling it back to developers in 1970; this time containing both theme parks within one complex known as "The Park".
