Hialeah Gardens, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,702 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The city's name is derived from Hialeah Creek and its namesake forested hills that overlook it. The citrus industry played a significant role in early development of Hialeah Gardens. In 1888, two brothers named George and Herman Hauser founded the Hauser Crop Division Company in what is now known asHauser Park on what is now Flagler Street between SW Second Avenue and SW Third Avenue. From this company grew Citrus Heights, an unincorporated community east of downtown Miami Lakes that straddles both banks of Hialeah Creek on Manatee Boulevard between Fourth Street and Fifth Street (now NW First Avenue). In 1916–17 landowner Harry Vail donated 1/5 acre (0.20 km2) at SW Second Avenue and Eighth Street to become what became Hialeah Gardens;[2] he had moved there from his home near Coral Gables three years earlier with his family for privacy reasons following the famous Dreyfus affair.[3] In 1922 Vail donated another tract totaling 0.75 acres (0.29 km2) to become Collier Hills;[4] he served as its first mayor from 1920 to 1923 when office was transferred from City Hall to the new park district headquarters building across Eighth Street from City Hall which would later be renamed Civic Center after being demolished in 1985 due to economic decline within civic venues throughout South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach.[5][6][7][8][9] Finally in 1924 Vail gifted 0.25 acres (0.08 km2) at NE Sixth Ave., just east of NW First Avenue intersection north of Northwest Trade Road,[10] becoming known as Summit Hill after having been used by members of the Coconut Grove Golf Club who resided nearby on North Swale Road before they moved into their own golf course southward along Northwest Trade Rd.. The primary economic activity during the early years of Hialeah Garden's existence was agriculture production; however, over time this changed to include other services such as retail sales and service industries such as architecture and engineering. Many local businesses have been preserved or are still in operation today including: First National Bank (1912-present), American Legion Post No. 2 (1920-present), Pompano Beach Savings Bank (1922-present), Wernher Gruner & Sons Construction Company (1927-1975), Kress Corporation (1948-1988) and Sears Roebuck & Co., which operated one store until 1978 (). In 1970, Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of what remained of citrus crops in central Florida so development around this area began slowly again with new business conversions throughout the 1980s before culminating with a major renovation project starting in 1996 that redirected traffic onto Interstate 95 from downtown Miami. Today much of what once constituted Hialeah Gardens is contained withininderring neighborhoods known as Midtown South or Downtown Eastside while portions continue to be used for agricultural production purpose such as housing developments like Parkland Estates () or Coconut Grove (), which straddles I-95 between Midtown South and Downtown Eastside

By 1907, the Hixon family had increased their holdings to 2,000 acres. In 1925, the name of the company changed to Everglades National Park and Garden Corporation. In 1960, Everglades National Park and Garden Corporation merged with Miami-Dade County to form Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department. In 1984, Miami-Dade County purchased the remaining interest in Everglades National Park Corporation from First American Corporation.
