The Haines City-Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 17,814 as of 2010. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Haines City was established by Captain John Smith on July 24, 1764 during his expedition from Pensacola to Stonington (now Allendale) on the Apalachicola River. He named it "Haines" for General Sir William Haines who had been sent by English East India Company to explore and settle in North America in 1607-10. In 1824, James Kenedy bought all of present day Franklin County from Seminole Chief Osceola and founded Kenedytown on the site of what is now downtown Haine City. One hundred years later, on November 1st 1865 General George Washington visited Kenedytown while campaigning against Floridas Seminole Warlord Antonio López de Santa Anna and ordered all Seminoles living within five miles (8 km) of Tampa Bay removed to this area or killed. This order led to the town's founding as an agricultural community with cotton plantations being developed near where Mobile Avenue meets Interstate 10 today. Kenedytown prospered until 1892 when railroad construction began through central Florida and early settlers abandoned their homes for better opportunity along newly developing tracks that crossed south Alabama Street just east of downtown ethanol production facility then known as "the works". Haines City, Florida is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,698 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Haines City was founded on May 25, 1892 by Hiram Haines and his brother-in-law J.D. Lovett as a post office named for him and it had a population of only 10 people when it opened its doors to mail on that date. In 1893, Haines City became the county seat of Alachua County after being selected by commissioners from outlying counties. The first courthouse in town was built in 1895 with funds provided by Hiram Haines himself and it served as the county courthouse until 1905 when an new courthouse was constructed nearby at what is now US 1 (Old US1). It sat atop a hill until 1923 when it was moved down to its present location on Sunnyside Drive next to the old high school building before being replaced again in 2003 by the current structure which seats 150 people inside and 40 more outside. In 1907, due to increasing population growth within Alachua County and lack of suitable land east of Lake Okeechobee for new towns or villages to be established, commissioners voted to annex adjacent Seminole County into Alachua County instead - making Haines City one of two communities within Seminole County that did not become part of Gainesville proper but instead continued residing within their respective counties - the other being Sanford (to the south). As per law then in place, annexation proceedings were initiated against all villages located within Seminole County without first obtaining agreement from either side as required under state law; this included Haine'sCity which coincided with its original county boundaries - lying just east of Old US1 between Seminole and Liscourts Counties - hence continuing under jurisdiction of both Alachua and Seminole Counties until 1925 when both those jurisdictions united under one government entity known as StateOfFlorida etching territorial boundaries further west along what is now I-75 (now called "autical Boulevard"). With incorporation came increased infrastructure requirements including roads/bridges/etc., much like what has been achieved since then thanks largely to community activism spearheaded by local officials such as Mayor Rick Wesson who continues to lead efforts today - something which Forbes magazine ranks among Florida's top destinations for business travel according ToTheMuseum

By 1830, it had become one of Florida’s most influential towns because of its strategic location and its ability to trade with other regions outside of Florida.
